Re: Original hemi dart information
1765 posts, the story of your Hemi Dart is the foundation of the Nostalgia forum, some rarely seen or heard of Darts have been revealed here, the pedigree of your Dart, while well studied and reported has yet to be determined.
As cool as everything that has evolved here is, I really hope for that one "rock" to be turned over and the info you need to come soon. "Inquiring Minds Want to Know" (for those not old enough, that used to be the slogan for the "National Enquirer") |
Re: Original hemi dart information
I read that the mysterious '68 Hemi Dart fell out of the sky and landed here on earth...read more about it in National Enquirer.

liteweight: had an interesting conversation sunday evening when i took my hemi dart clone to a local cruise in canton, ohio. i talked with a fellow who said he owned the wildfire dart at 1 time. i told him of your search and he thought he had spoke to you a couple of years ago about you looking for your car. the story was you got his # and kept calling it but it was his fax machine # so he would ignore it. 1 day he got tired of this and he answered it. if this story sounds familar then you must have talked to him, if not i will try to get some contact info for you so you can follow up on this. he seemed very knowledgeable about the ins and out of the 68 ss cars and i checked with some friends that know him and they said he did own a 68 hemi a-body. what i have found since i started driving mine is most people know little about them, so when i run into someone who seems to know i'm all ears! picture is my car. dave

hemidart3
I know what you mean bout very few people know anything on the Hurst cars, including, of all places, Mopar only shows. I have reliable information on the WildFire Dart that it is not my car,& that it's current location is known. Thanx for thinking of me tho. Muchos appreciated !!!!! Great looking car hemidart3 Hemimoose, Hemimoose, Hemimoose------- What in the------- ????? I can't leave that picture on this thread as the last one people will look at liteweight http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...l/HPIM0608.jpg |
Re: Original hemi dart information
lol, I thought that post might bring some humor to this thread because this search for the lost L023 Hemi Dart must be getting really frustrating at times...it seems like the last resort is to write an article and send in some old photos to them to do a story on it...I can see it now on the cover of National Enquirer and at all of the super market chains. :D

Re: Original hemi dart information
Frustrating ???? Ya, that's it's been & so much more, but I've learned to "suck it up buttercup".
I've got over the frustrated part awhile ago & now am just letting the pieces of the puzzle come together in stride. Right now, waiting on that next piece tho. Jimi any updates??? liteweight This car is not mine. It was in Elkton a few years back http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0009-1.jpg |

Re: Original hemi dart information
I'm a lurker, been following this thread for awhile. I love the Hemi Darts and Barracudas, my absolute favorites of the vintage Super Stocks. I have been collecting vintage pics of these cars and have somewhere around 1000, most of which are from threads like this. This thread is unbelievable and a great read, all 177 pages. Thanks so much to the contributors for posting some rare pics, I wish I had found this thread before some of the older pics were taken down.
This may be a little off-topic, but wanted to post up a couple diecast mods I've done that haven't been represented in diecast replica format. Cam Noseworthy "Demented Dart" http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/...-58-43_686.jpg Tony Suppa "Suppa Cuda" - cleaned up the graphics a lot, added some real headers and slicks http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/...Suppa-Cuda.jpg |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Welcome here.
Wish more guys would come out of the woodwork & share their pictures, stories etc., because with over 280,000 views, there's alot of guys available to contribute to this thread. One of the reasons it has been so successfull is due to contributions made, but unfortunately made by only a very few people. Imagine what it would be like with more-----!!!! I gotta thank those who have been contributing; for keeping this thread alive, because it has turned into something I never would have imagined. Nicely done guys !!!!! liteweight ps: Nice replicas efi4eye. I thought they were the full size on first look. Needed to look real close to see it http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...O/IMG_0026.jpg http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...O/IMG_0028.jpg |

This photo is of Dick Landy's Dart with Bob Lambeck's name in the window. It was taken at Fremont Drag Strip in March of 1969. Sorry, the photo is too large .

Re: Original hemi dart information
Can anyone see something a little out of the ordinary on this car
liteweight http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...O/IMG_0009.jpg |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Maybe my old eyes....it looks like the nose is "drooped" a couple of inches like the newer pro stocks were.
Not schooled enough to see much else. At least the restored version has the correct scoop on it. |
Re: Original hemi dart information
You got it. Maybe old eyes but they're trained eyes.
It's REALLY well done, cause you can't see where the mods were accomplished.I don't know the actual drop in measurement tho. liteweight |
Re: Original hemi dart information
I seem to notice panel alignment. Maybe from my teenage days in a bodyshop.
If you look at the pic you sent compared to the one above it at the strip, the bottom of the grille is now sitting on the top of the bumper. The top of the fender begins to angle down where it meets the door. If you take a pie-cut shape down the back of the fender, Say 1 inch at the bottom to 0 at the top,you "droop" the fender and improve aero. A LOT more work than just that to make the complete nose to droop but you get the basic process. Lots of the older Pro Stock cars did that. I believe it was originally a NASCAR trick. Look at some of the 60's and 70's NASCAR (when they still looked like real cars) and you will find all kinds of aero stuff hidden there. From 50 feet, barely noticeable. |

This is rumored to be the first Super Stock B029 built...it was known as the 'Mule Car' and renamed.

Re: Original hemi dart information
If I remember correctly A/MS was original AHRA for SS/A .
A / Modified Stock If I'm right, that would make it a stick car. |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Liteweight, notice the drivers side mirror & rear finish panel on the Asphalt Animal '68 Hemi Dart...I think it might have been a privately built car.
|
Re: Original hemi dart information
Never noticed that. Very Valid points, specially the tailpanel. Yup, I tend to agree with you
