Re: Crate Motor Class
My friends up in D1 tell me that James is really a great guy, of course I don't know that for sure because he calls me names, but I admire his passion and I'll take their word for it, kind of sort of.

Re: Crate Motor Class
My Stocker has been sitting in storage without an engine since 2014. It'll be super-expensive to build a motor to bomb the 13.80 Q/SA index so I'm petitioning the NHRA to add "Push Stock" classes to Stock Eliminator so that all of the guys who don't have the money to spend on upgrading or freshening their motors can use up to 4 friends to push them down the 1/4 mile while they keep the car pointed straight.
But really, it sounds like this Dan guy is experiencing "being a cheapskate" gone wrong. You don't have a dime-rocket combo so spend the money to meet the performance standards like everyone else, obtain a better / more affordable combo (purchased or built), or just run Street ET. The years of driving a Stocker to the track have been gone since around the time I was born, save for a few FWDs. So you state that it will cost $15,000 to upgrade to NHRA conformity? First, you don't know how much it will ultimately cost until you actually start spending the money (rollbar aside). Nobody says you have to spend it all at the same time either. I'm having trouble fathoming this even costing that much to upgrade considering Nitro Joe's shows you ran a best of 12.88 last year. I don't know what your other runs were or what weight you made those passes at, but it sounds like you are pretty darn close to K/L/M index range. I mean, holy crap, there is a '94 Caprice running 12.60's in P/SA with the baby LT1. I thought the beauty of running a Chevy 350 motor was that there will always be someone with parts laying around. It's a 20+ year old combo, I'm sure whatever trick Comp or Bullet cam from 2002 and a fresh valve train will get you under the index considering you had to run stock duration / seat pressure. Can we start a Go Fund Me to buy this guy an upgraded cam & valvetrain? Regarding ex-Crate Motor engine combos......ehhhh.....maybe compromise and allow them in GT Super Stock? Sincerely, A guy who went out and bought a running Q/SA for $7,500. |

And he wants to be able to keep his A/C and comforts of the car. I couldn't agree more, my window motor quit last week at Reynolds and I was about to suffocate in October! A/C would've been very useful. But he lost me on the one about being able to drive it on the street, I mean I do it all the time. A few test passes here and there, just ask my neighbors across the road who keep calling the state patrol! A few test never hurt anyone! |
