Re: OLD Modified Corvettes

There were several beautiful Corvettes that raced out of Montgomery, AL back in the 70's and 80's. One was a candy apple red '62 owned and driven by Bill Bethea. Another was a black '63 (IIRC), owned and driven by Al Capatel. These were IHRA cars, so they prob weren't seen much outside of the Southeast. Surely someone has some pics of those.
I'm told that Bill still owns his car, not sure about Al. Bill's business partner, Kenneth Dickey also had a 'Vette. I believe his was also a '62, which ran in S/S.
Another was the McCann, Cowles and Kamakowski car, driven by Stanley Kamakowski, which was white and was a '67 or '66. (IIRC)
These cars were all Modifieds except for Kenneth's and all were immaculate and always well-prepared.
Anyone remember those cars?

Terry,

I remember these racers and their cars well. They were good racers who ran at Phenix City and Montgomery quite a bit, I always admired their Corvettes and not surprised that Bill still has his.

Doug, would it be possible to see interior and underhood?

Recently owned by Angelo DeCarlo until a few years ago. Was sold to somebody that did a restoration of the Ault & James H/Gas Corvette.

Shown here in the courtyard west of the left lane bleachers at the US Nationals last September.
