Compression ain't got nothing to do with the spark happenin'. (or not.)
The high cylinder pressure you strive for happens a-f-t-e-r the spark lights off the a/f mix. The pressure before TDC (and ignition,) isn't enough to affect a modern system. You gots another problem-o Koop.

Wish I could help - but I just didn't want you to be one of those guys thinking, "the compression is blowing the spark out."

Not that you were one of those guys....just making sure.....you know.

Yeah, I know that. Never thought it could blow out the spark - sounds pretty funny though. It's just that individually, all the elements are there but there is not an operational engine, and NOW it
s stuck. OK, I have HUGE problems. I am now wondering if the odd miss might have been evidence of another problem. We are way to quick to llook at fuel RE: carb. We've used three and all yeilded the same results but ran fine at the beginning of the season.... I'm needing to find a recliner to let my head quit hurting....

Gonna pull the engine, freshen it even though it's like new, check for mechanical problems, probably rewire the car, then give it another go.

I left Ohio to get away from that constant cold stuff. I can't see ever going back. Of course with the climate changing so rapidly somewhere back east might be the new tropical paradise soon. Bet you spun a bearing.

I've been dealing with a similar issue off and on for years with my Duster. I can get the car to run right for weeks at a time, and then a high-end miss comes back. I change one component, it runs fine for weeks, then the miss comes back. Change something different, it pretends like it's fixed, and then the miss returns. It seems to me like it is somehow heat related, as it tends to start breaking up above 5,000 rpm only after making a couple of passes in succession.

I've been through alternator, ignition box, voltage regulator, switches, battery, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, distributor... the most aggravating thing is that it won't just stay broke or stay fixed!

Another odd thing with the car is that ever since moving the battery back up front, the voltmeter has been reading very high: 14-16, even with a fully charged battery, and trying different alternators and voltage regulators. Could this be frying something else in the system?

Mike Raddish -- think that the ballast resistor could be *bad*?

I didn't repalce the ballast resistor--- I removed it after installing a 6 al box and pro billet distributer. I ran the ballast all summer, then removed it in the fall cause i knew it was only a matter of time before it would die. Electrical problems have always been my downfall. That was the 2nd. worst summer of 45 years of drag racing, only surpassed by what has happened to me this year. I wouldn't wish this year on my worst enemy--- well maybe one guy i know.
