Re: Bad track at Pomona
VP has or had instructions on how to apply their compounds......but I was just looking over their web site and can't find it. If someone can find it maybe this will shed some light as to why the traction problems...

Re: Bad track at Pomona
Tulsa only recently switched to NHRA.
PJ-1 is VHT. |
Re: Bad track at Pomona
Byron,
It sure sounds like it was the same problem we had at Atco on the Thursday test sesion prior to the points race? If so, it was the VP traction compound that Joe tried . He was able to fix the problem after discovierng it was the traction compound . Kent |
Re: Bad track at Pomona
Ed have you seen Byron? You won't be having a nice day. How are the deer doing? Are they getting ready for the upcoming holiday?

HRP (Baytown/Houston), Ennis, Memphis, Noble OK, all NHRA, all using VHT from all the PJ-1 drums sitting around. Several of my Houston customers told me early this past summer that HRP had quit hooking like it always used to, and that they had changed to VP Track Bite. They later told me they had changed back to VHT. Still, at the Div races it still wasn't what it used to be. I often wondered this summer if VHT had changed, or the tracks cut back on it to save money. I found at Memphis I had been fighting a junk set of tires, so can't really say about some of the starting lines. Even on the old tires Ennis & Tulsa have been very good. |
Re: Bad track at Pomona
No oil down fines, no glue(maybe no good glue), no track prep. Really didn't think they were gonna make that back up outta their pocket did ya?
Hate to say it but NHRA needs to bring back some kind of reasonable fines for the pro's. They didn't have to pay anything to get in, they can afford to pay to keep the track in shape.. benefits them as much as anyone. |
Re: Bad track at Pomona
The reason I mentioned Tulsa just recently switched is because a track doesn't necessarily use a particular compound based on the sanctioning body, unless it is specifically at a National event. Even for Divisional races, I'm not so sure that the sanctioning bodies don't just use whatever the track uses on a weekly basis.
I'm curious if there is any effect on the surface to using one brand all year, and then spraying something different on it for 1-2 races. You wouldn't think so, since they're scraping the rubber, but.... -=shrug=- Pageland Dragway in South Carolina is a tiny little track with the best-kept secret. They did a lot of experimenting the last few years with their own homebrew traction compound, and when they hit on it, buddy you could tell! Best 60' times there (with "real" 60' clocks), and the car yanks the wheels higher there than anywhere else. Don't know what they did exactly, but I keep telling them to bottle the stuff and sell it! |
