Re: Update From Phoenix
Jeff: call NHRA and ask them . Call Firebird and ask them to get your "facts" .. Call the Manufactor of the traction compound and ask him .:):D

Re: Update From Phoenix
Oh I don't think so. You would not likely get any information, until they have all agreed on the press release.
This is too much of a hot potato - to not have all of their ducks in a row. As I said prior to you (in my previous post) - nobody wanted this to happen. As in our daily lives - we will get the news "facts" that the powers at be want us to have. Sort of - what is good for us to know. On a need to know basis - who really needs to know at this point. I am sure all the key stakeholders (except the racers), will try to make sure this never happens again. We are certainly a key stakeholder but are not involved in the decision process. |
Re: Update From Phoenix
If the "compound" was really the problem here wouldn't traction right off the starting line be a huge problem?
The problems developed down track. The track is very bumpy and also has some kind of rut running length wise. Made it feel like a huge gust of wind was hitting you from the side. They can spray the heck out of this surface later in the year and cars will still have a problem getting down it. Chalk this up to the biggest F***ING waste of 2 weekends I've ever spent at a race track! How about the "(insert class here) to the lanes" announcements? Everyone gets their cars warmed up and ready. 5 minutes later...ummm hold on guys we've changed our minds again. We're going to try to make honey out of a horse crap racing surface. We've tried and tried, but we're going to try again until another car hits the wall. Then we'll try and try again until another car hits the wall....rinse and repeat rinse and repeat. Did we all think it was going to get better after the 1st weekend??? Guess so!!! There were plenty of us that came back. Did anything get done between the 1st and 2nd weekend??? Grinding, patching, anything??? They didnt know about the "compound" issue until Friday? Like Firebird has never had a problem getting cars down the track until this year. Does anyone have an idea of how many sportsman cars wrecked at Firebird these last 2 weekends? |
Re: Update From Phoenix
The reason for asking the question is because of the BS in this thread. So far it's been glue for NASCAR, VP, pj1, ph1, VHT, straight product over diluted ,25 percent over diluted. NHRA is wrong for requesting track to be stripped of all rubber.prostockers are wrong , Firbird employees are wrong. Track is broken apart. Like Andy stated I'm sure I won't get the right answer if I called. So much blame going around without any facts. Rumors and finger pointing going around it's silly. Once we get told what everyone wants to hear then the sheep will go right back to the slouder house. Banning together when muffler rule came about we won. Prostockers banned together and it worked for them. I hope the truth comes out and a intelligent decision can be made and racers will band together to make sure this will not happen again. It's our lives and money being put on the line.I've heard the phrase before" it's not there first rodeo"Alot of locals have expressed their feelings about conditio of track throughout the year.

Re: Update From Phoenix
Steve Scheidker, Director of Marketing & Communications has issued this statement: “We want to confirm that VP's Lane Choice was not involved in any way. VP's Lane Choice traction compound has never been purchased or used at Firebird.” [03/02/10]

I was there and this was a Huge waste of time
I got to know WHY WAS THE NATIONAL EVENT CANCELLED IN FAVOR OF A DIVISIONAL,, That was the first JACKASS MOVE Lets BE RAEL .. The traction problem was also happening ON THE THURSDAY TEST SESSION. Throttle stop cars COULD NOT MAKE IT DOWN JUST LIKE THE WEEKEND BEFORE,, How can you Mike Rice as a directer not have seen this coming.. How can you continue to use the same STUFF OVER AND OVER WHEN IT WAS NOT WORKING.. Why was 1/8 mile racing not an option? Who makes the CALL ON CANCELLING THE NATIONAL EVENT? Was it about all the ENTRYS$$$FOR THE DIVISIONAL Please someone TELL ME WHY A DIVISIONAL IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A NATIONAL EVENT,??? |

Re: Update From Phoenix
Hey--If it means anything- I was there for both races and I walked the track and the asphalt beyond the 1000' concrete appeared to me to be 25 years old and deteroiated--the more they worked it the worse it got--the rain water was able to penetrate through the cracks and holes in the surface and caused the old asphalt to come apart--I lay asphalt for a living -appx 100,000 tons a year - if I was a betting man I would bet that there will be new asphalt on the big end before they hold another Pro race--thanks--Emmett
