Echoing Ernie, kinda surprized to see this thread revived. Regarding Bob Williams "Double Trouble" Chevelle. My memory may be failing me but he had Truppi-Kling on the side of the car. Steph Thompson, whom for a short time had a speed shop (1973ish) in an office suite near Meridian Street and Troy, always said that Truppi helped Williams so that Roger England wouldn't be the dominant SS/DA car in this neck of the woods. I was a dumb 19-20 year old pup back then, so take that with a grain of salt. Those were some fun times back in those days. It's really kind of funny looking back, because many of those old local cars were impressive. Like most bracket racers today, many of those cars rarely were ever raced anywhere other than their local track. Ernie, if you can post those pictures, I'd sure enjoy seeing them. Regarding the Sunfire, is that the same one you guys had at Brown County a couple years back? If so, that was one nice looking car! |
Re: Any you guys remember Roger England of Columbus, IN
Local Racing was the racing at this time. The Nationals was considered the only race away from the local tracks. We ran the Muncie, Pences turkey farm some week ends then later moved on to Tri State in Hamilton Ohio. Then it was Edgewater and occasional Lexington. We saw a lot of national competitors. Those weekends were something to see. Many good guys learning the cars and moving up to more competitive status. Then the points meets began to attract many and the local tracks were less often attended. Runing your index became a goal and then points meets were more attractive.

Dave, I think I saw your friend driving Lloyd's car @ Tri-State along time ago. Didn't it have a big block Chev in it?

Before they built their Modified Compact car, they did a bit of the eastern national tour. I know they went to the Gators and Englishtown. I couldn't get enough time off work to go with them. Those were good times. I don't think I realised how lucky I was to have experienced all that at that time. |

You got it right, David drove that car 2 years ago and haven't been able to get him out of it since. He had forgotten how much fun a stick was to drive! Once he gets it figured out as well as his bracket stuff, he'll tough. Ernie Neal SS 354 |
