Would they accept saftey wiring the bolts that hold the collecters to the tabs or in their eyes nobody is capable of doing that correctly either.

Seems like it would make good sense to specify the "tether" does not permit the collector from becoming separated from the primary tubes.

As stated earlier, having a collector bouncing under car travelling down track is an additional concern.

It would also make sense to contact some of the header builders to establish a best practice for safely mounting collectors to headers.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, a car with removable collectors and collector extensions would need two safety tethers per side, correct?

How about a car with an X-pipe with multiple pieces? Just curious.......

I agree with the above

My own experience:
I had one complete collector come off at the hit of the throttle on the starting line. It went under my right rear slick and was shot out the rear. Fortunately it didn't puncture the tire or hit the starting line crew in the process. NOW every tube has a tab that is bolted together with lock washers and double nuts. All is well since then.

If the collector is full welded to the primary pipes would it still be considered removable ? I dont think so and if that is the case ,do you need these tethers ?

This does not pertain to all headers as they have to be disassembled to remove from chassis.

I have had one tech inspector look under my car, and I was impressed with him and commented that he was the first to do so. I think it could have been that I was an racing in a different division. But most of our cars are not easily accessible to see what is under the car. Especially the headers and tabs.

Where these are really needed are on funny car bodies. Sooner or later one of those is going to land in the stands. If they have a tether they aren't working very well.

What about whole wheels that fly from top fuel dragsters into the crowd! I understand the need for safety but c'mon .

I believe they have a tether system.

Seems like much of the rulebook is written around lawsuits. Reminds me of tags like "Warning: Cape does not enable user to fly"
