Re: Pure Stock Thread - Foreign Makes
I sometimes take the PT cruiser to grudge race night at Gainesville, $20 to race all night. You would think that would bring in the fart can kids but it doesn't, there may be 10 cars there but that's the max.
The fact is that the last few generations are not interested in drag racing and most don't even know what it is. Nope, just give them a computer,a $500.00 phone and a Mall and that's all they need. Sad. JimR |

One Friday night at Tulsa, at the test n tune deal, I was in the staging lanes next to a Honda, goofy wing on the deck lid (FWD car), clear tail lights, graphics, etc. he was showing his time slip to another kid. I heard him say "15.34? These clocks are screwed up! Everybody knows this is a nine second car!" Lmao!
Only in his wettest dreams. LOL Not many run like Cary's. |
Re: Pure Stock Thread - Foreign Makes
I grew up in Florida, and down at the Orlando Speedworld Wednesday & Friday night TnTs, all of the lanes would be full, and people would be lining up even beyond that.
I would say that about half of the cars would be imports; mostly Civics, with some Subaru STIs, Mitsubishi Evos. The other half would be mostly Mustangs, with other stuff mixed in. It seemed like there were always a half dozen guys running their Mazda rotaries with the NOS flowing! Very few of the import guys showed up for bracket racing on Saturday night. I guess the import guys know they can't run a consistent number. I haven't been able to come anywhere near consistent in my Honda, though it was much better last time out after installing a line-lock. |
Re: Pure Stock Thread - Foreign Makes
Ran the IHRA Richmond Race this weekend and met 2 other Pure Stockers that ran the meet.
We took our share of competitors out :D There was a beautiful restored and very fast 1972 Chevelle SS running in H/PS. The car ran almost a second under the index. and Gary Burr and wifes 2001 B/PS LS1 Camaro running 7.70 ET My car managed a .7778 under in the 1/8 mile race. Made it to Round 4 Saturday and only Round 1 Sunday. Lost to some guy that may own a Italian Pizza place. Sunday it started to drizzle after round one and may have been poetic because the race was cancelled and had a long drive home. The ride was drizzly all the way back to Maryland. AND What shoud have taken 2.5 hours took 4 hours. I really hate I-95 Virginia Traffic ...bumper to bumper most of the way. At times white knuckle driving as some drivers tailgated all the way up. Even if it was a tractor trailer rig. It was a typical sine curve of speed up slow down with constant slow downs. Much caused from way too much Car Porn Intercoursing going on and the Rubber Necking to view the exchange to Verbal Fluids of information on the safety lane. Dan |

Re: Pure Stock Thread - Foreign Makes
We've been running our car in NHRA Comp eliminator for 3 seasons. It is powered by a 4G63 engine built by Mitsubishi engine that came in Plymouth Lasers, Eagle Talons and Mitsu Eclipses. It is 125 c.i. and makes 1300 hp. We own the record for our class at 6.57 at 204. We are constantly trying to get more young people involved in class racing to no avail. They don't like the strict rules to follow and all the aggravation with it. They also like heads-up racing. They will not and most can not spend the money for a 3 day race and a lot of them don't have the time off either. I completely agree that we need to get them involved but don't know how. Most of the fast cars would never fit in a stock type class. As mentioned before they all put turbo's on them to race. They can race at local races and take home more money than any class out there now. Take Honda day at Atco. They have a 2 day race on a Sat and Sunday and turn people away at the gate. I'm willing to bet that not very many of the cars racing are bone stock.
My son raced his Eclipse in the Nopi series and the Sport compact NHRA races and had a great time. Unfortunately, neither one survived mostly because of lack of participation. I applaud any effort to get them involved and offer my help in any way. Bob Niemczyk http://turbo4.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BXNbULeU8w |
