Go oval track racing, you can spin out and make the lap up. The sudden death aspect of drag racing makes you try harder.

No way; if you lose, you go home.

How about first and second round buybacks and you can buy a Mulligan too and use it only if you need it....and you can double enter the same car...

Like down in N.C. at some of their 1/8th mile tracks.....takes about nine-ten rounds to finish a race that had 30-40 cars to start.

You beat the same guy 3 times and lose but he wins anyway...LOL

Makes perfect sense to me.....about like World Cup Soccer......dumbest thing I ever seen....lose but by just a little so you still move on....

In the interest of fair reporting, 40 cars with 1st AND 2nd Round buybacks plus a mulligan is still an 8-round race. Not many tracks offer mulligans (thankfully), and most tracks use either 1st "or" 2nd round buybacks or 1st round only.

Bracket events that utilize the Re-Entry style of buybacks (1st Rnd only), where buybacks race each other in a separate round, with only winners advancing to Round 2, make it so everyone has to win the same amount of rounds to win the race. Generally speaking, with this format, there has to be around 190+ cars to make it a 9-round race.

All that being said, I agree: No buybacks for S/SS racing.

It was just an exaggeration Michael to show how ludicrous a race can become with this type of format....

I totally understand why races are run this way and for those that are happy running a race like this I say have at it....

Promoting your races on here has nothing to do with this thread.....

Pay Ken if you want to advertise.....instead of sliding it in a thread that has nothing to do with your races....

This is stupid...

Even T-ball kids know the score, and who won or lost when the score is not kept.

If you don't like the rules take your stocker or superstocker and go to your local bracket race. The bonus is they don't weigh, have fuel check, or heads up runs! And then if there is something you don't like you can change their rules, not ours!

I agree with Lundholm's Son-in Law!

Some people may not have realized it was hyperbole, and taken it at face value, and formed an inaccurate view of other forms of racing. While I don't expect or want class racing to become bracket racing, it deserves a fair assessment, as some class racers do bracket race, and others may want to try some events.

Edited. It was included as a specific example of how bracket events aren't all ludicrous.

Well, this went as I expected, lol! Though I haven't (yet) driven in stock or super stock, I've never been a huge fan of buy backs for a couple of reasons. First, my home track has an average of 475 or so cars for a points race, so we've never had buybacks for those. Second, I HATE losing first round. Losing, paying money to buy back, then losing again would not do well for my blood pressure. I did buy back once...$20 extra to try for $2,000...I ended up winning 4 rounds and getting my money back plus maybe an ice cream cone. :p I did attend a race where the car count was low and they had 2 rounds of buy backs! I beat the same guy 3 times on my way to the win. When I pulled up next to him for the third time, he looked over at me and looked pretty shook up...:D

very lucky. he smoked the tires or I was done. Hard to believe he is running on the same 9 inch wide slick I do.
utmost respect for the patterson family. Very humbled even to race Todd Patterson and go 1 for 2 on the weekend.
He spanked me in the class final friday.
The pattersons are great sportsman and fierce competitors.
Miss all the awesome tan comp. cars that
ran great for many years. Not forgotten.
