Well, 1320racer, if I knew who you actually are, I may have included you..

To be specific, and to also be a little repetitive, I was involved in several test sessions involving a mandatory change from VP to Sunoco, and at those sessions, I got to witness, first hand, parts and engine failure while trying to match performance.. this was also evident on the dyno, and confirmed after disassembly..

Another specific would be loss of performance at a National event, in a Comp car, due to jetting and timing issues... luckily no damage, but because Sunoco was the mandatory fuel, we had to deal with it... and I can repeat my experience in my SG car while involuntarily back to backing the fuels, because VP was not let in the gate... I've been a VP guy for at least as long as you have been a Sunoco guy, and will pay a little extra for what I want... in all those years, I only tried Sunoco once, may have been misguided about the fuel cross over from brand to brand by the Sunoco rep, but was lucky not to have it bite me at that race.. I will continue to use VP RACE FUELS, even if I have to drive to get it...

NOW, if you want to get back to the original topic of this thread, fine.. this guy apparently got the wrong fuel, and put it in his car.. maybe he doesn't have the experience to be wary of that possibility, maybe the color was the same.. BUT, first of all, if it was at a D1 track, there should have been reps to deal with, and he could have had a face to face.. second, you asked what this guy is looking for??.. I'm sure if he got DQed, he like to be back in for chance to win the race.. but we know that the opportunity has passed... other than that, maybe the replacement of the fuel, if he's trusting enough... it's up to him to make his deal... but if I were him, I'd be sure to recognize the guy that he dealt with for the next time...

Charlie, I’m nobody, just a guy that has been racing nearly 3 decades, with 3 cars, 3 engines combos and all have been run very successfully on Sunoco fuels without issue on the dyno and on the track, who has also found VP fuels to offer no benefits and cost more.

There is no problem with Sunoco fuels in the engines/cars discussed in this forum anymore than there is with VP fuels that too have failed fuel check on occasion.

My fuel cells are currently full of Sunoco Supreme aka Blue as well I have 4 jugs full of blue in my trailer.. My cars like many in this part of the country are embarking on a well deserved 6 month rest and when I fire them up in 6 months, drive to the lanes and stage for my first hit of the season, I have no doubt they will go from the starting line to the finish line without issue just as they have always done.

As Rich stated, use what works for you

Now if the conversation is about what fuel is best in what Comp or pro stock engine, I don’t know nor will I ever know.

Well, Ed, I actually do know of you, just never actually shook hands.. and I have just about decade on you in drag racing.. LOL!!

We can agree on one thing, that VP is more expensive.. but I believe there is a change in the wind..

On the rest, we'll just have to agree to disagree, and use what works best for us.. hopefully, neither of us gets bit, and won't have to re-read this thread.. LOL!!!

I have to pay bills, so I couldn't make the races on the West Coast.. so.I may also be putting stuff away for the winter... as painful as that can be.. and then next year, it's looking like a return to bracket racing.. "The Circuit" just plain wore me out..

Glad there is VP RACE FUELS at the tracks I'll be visiting.... LOL!!!... stay warm..

Charlie, everybody on these forums knows of me :D and I know who you are too, though not before I looked you up. I’ll formally introduce myself next time our paths cross.

You’ve got me on actual racing years but probably not much from being a hot rodder which I guess officially started with my first car, a 68 Chevelle in 1977.

That said, sorry to hear you’re going back to bracket racing. Not that it’s a bad thing, certainly makes more sense from the $ you can compete for, it’s just another hit to the division Car count, but I hear you with you being worn out. This was our first full season competing and I’m worn out from the race day, last minute drama with the Car, no mind the driving all over the east coast. Meanwhile, my son who was a rock star flying into/out of the last 2 out of division races wants to compete in a second class next season. :rolleyes: oh well, at least we get to spend the weekends together.

I pay all the bills too, this class racing clearly ain’t about the $. Spent more $ this season that I have ever before, including an engine freshen mid season, done in 2 weeks time including shipping so we could make Atco.

Yup, you and Kyle have had a great year, and CONGRATS..

I shouldn't say that I'm off the circuit just yet, cause it depends on the money.. and I am closing in on a freshen-up, with updates.... cha-ching...

And my first car was a 67 Chevelle, BBC, 4spd... and that was 1972...

I have bought fuel from Atco out of the back of a box truck. Could not see what the label on the drum said, I trusted that the guy was giving me what I wanted. I asked for Sunoco Blue, and that is what I got.

Now, if Methanol, or whatever the OP was given, is the same color, that could lead to confusion. I don't know about the difference in smell between that the OP wanted and what he got.

I know my mother has been unable to smell things for the last 30 or so years. What it the OP has no sense of smell either?

At this point I would expect Sunoco to simply give him his money back for the fuel, nothing more. Mistakes happen.

I have purchased Sunoco from more than 15 different vendors over the years.Have never had a problem with Purple, or the Blue that I use now.I have left it in my fuel cell and it still checks 6 months later.Just recently I had some C11 VP that I tried at Indy to help me qualify because I was told it was faster.Made 2 runs at St. louis points race and changed back to my $8. a gallon Sunoco Blue.Car ran the same with both fuels.The only problem I have heard with any of the fuels, is that some dealers are not using new drums when they pick up their fuel.Now Sunoco requires the use of new drums for all the fuels.

You may not have realized the full benefit of C-11.The conventional wisdom among experienced C-11 users is that to be fast with it, you'll have to retard the ignition timing a couple of degrees and go up a couple of jet sizes. I don't know if a straight switch from Purple or Blue to C-11 (changing nothing else) would allow you to see all there might be to see.
