Dan..here is Bob's reply to my email....Bobby...his offer should be to everyone.

I will say yes to friday tech, and I have no idea about Thursday at this time

OK - So i'm not there live today but here's the lastest from the track - the Storm that was called for this morning passed thru earlier than expected and at this moment its clear with temps in the low sixties and a very slight breeze .Tomorrow is expected to be about the same - possibly a little more breezy ...........

This stuff is pretty easy to predict - maybe it could be my next new career - beats pedalling cars for a living .

I know we dropped off everything last night and there was TONS of Asphalt left for everyone to park. With the amount of cars that are left I can't see them having to park cars in the Stock Car Track or on the Return Road. Looks to be a VERY VERY Windy day tomorrow with gusts up to 30mph (40mph at Atco cause of the open area), so if it wasn't rain playing H**l on us 2 weeks ago now the wind. Wonder if we will go 1/8 mile racing?

Jack, I just pulled in to the track. Looks like a ghost town, as you can see from the pictures not many are here.

The weather report is as follows, bright sunshine about 60. We have a steady cross wind at 15 mph gust to 25 mph.

The forecast for tomorrow is about the same. Sunday looks like the best day, sunny with a high of 70 and much less wind.

Morning everyone, its a beautiful day with bright sunshine. Its a cool morning with moderate wind. The wind is supposed to pick up today, it will be interesting what call is made for the day, 1/8 or 1/4?

More rigs pulled in last night and there are coming in regularly this morning. It still looks as if many racers decided not to come back. The alcohol and comp pits are empty. I only saw 3 alcohol cars.

Frank Maiolo's car has to be one of the nicest 69 Camaro's that I have ever seen as a race car. The detail of the paint job along with everything else is outstanding.

We are supposed to start at 10 beginning with stock.

The numbers for the weather look to be fast.

Temp 56
Humd 46%
Bar 29.72
DA 445 feet

More later....

Safety first will no doubt be the guideline for the 1/4 or 1/8 call.
New England Dragway has already made the call for a 1/8 race..........
Hope all goes well for the completion of the race without any other incident.

It's sat at noon time.
We did get a time trial in for stock, super street, and super stock (1/4 mile).
It is sunny and wndy.
After a few pairs of super gas, they stopped running because of the wind (a little more gusty than earlier).
We've been down for about 20 minutes now.

23 out of 39 SS cars returned for competition.
43 out of 58 stockers mde the time trial session.

Re: Live from Atco , NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series

well.... the decision was just made.

super gas is running again (1/8th mile).
Comp, alcohol cars will all get 1/8 mile tt.

Then they will let us know the rest of the schedule.

At least we're running again.

I see Tom has filled everyone in. The wind is starting to pick up, gusts are around 25 mph.

The time shot for stock was uneventful, everyone got down the track with no issues. I ran about the same as Maple Grove as did most that were at the Grove. I felt my car move around a bit, but nothing scary.

The wind is much stronger now and I think going to 1/8 was the right move. No word on if Stock or Super Stock will run the 2nd round in the 1/8. The weather for tomorrow is supposed to be great. As soon as I here something I will post.

The first picture is our very own Tom Sheenan hard at work. I would assume he is going through photos that will posted on Class Racer.

NHRA Div 1 should seriously consider changing their schedule to race more in the summer and limit the race schedule beyond the month of September. The Dutch Classic has always been in October and is the best race of the year to many racers.....if the weather is good, but It often is not......

I have not run many events this year but if I did I would much rather race in the heat than in the cold, wind and rain........Track conditions are not usually anywhere near as iffy when it's hot and the sun is out.....slow yes and maybe traction is not the best but we all get down the track.....usually.....

I think it is really no way the fault of Bob Lang and his crew....but they need to change the schedule and NOT race in March/earlyApril or mid to late October......

Angelo, suggesting 1/8 mile to some of the prima dona's in NHRA S/SS is like asking them to run into a snow storm in their speedos. It's too IHRA for them. They'd rather take a chance on running into the wind and tempt disaster than to run the 1/8 mile.

Come on Doc.You know what would happen running in the middle of summer.
Ah it's too damn hot

Super Stock and Super Comp are done for today - all others will run 1/4 mile .Stock is almost done with rd 2 - Dunstan Lowell tossed for excessive braking at finish line - they are not taking any stuff here today . All other classes are trying to run another round yet today ............stay tuned ...............

It's never to hot for me Ed so you'll never hear me complain....
My car hooks in my backyard.....
NHRA and Bob Lang usually do fine. I watch them working at the crack of dawn ....
Some summer showers are unavoidable but if the sun comes out we're golden....

The hottest event I can recall was at Numidia around 2003 or 2004.....I was running S/C ......air temps were 96-98 with DA well over 4000' .......I went .002 red around rd 4 cause my brain was overheated and I staged like a dork.......I sat in the lanes too long and the sun definately was tough to fight off at that race.........

I would prefer the heat anyday.......some of my best days were when it was blisteringly hot......

P.S. Yankees are down 3-0 but it's early.......and I have more beer! LOL

Rich,

Now it's 5-0 Rangers-the Yankees have the Rangers right where they want them (or at least that score early worked out well for the Yankees last night). Still you gotta worry about the Yankees starting pitching. Can the bullpen always keep the Rangers of the scoreboard? And boy do I wish the Sox ever had David Murphy back-I wonder which semi-pro team Eric Gagne is pitching for this month.

Rich Biebel 10-16-2010 05:43 PM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series

5-1 Dave.....Yankee pitchers have been terrible the last month ++.....and they are still winning!.....Texas is a good team and this will be a very tough series......

I have to admit I bailed out last night after the Yankees were down 5-0. Sleep sounded better than watching them lose....I woke up today and said to myself they won before I turned on the news....and thats NO B.S. Expecting them to keep doing that is not realistic......spotting Texas 5 runs is not usually going to work........Rich

We hijacked this thread but I love Yankee baseball more than racing...LOL

I agree with you Ed - and I would prob be one who wouldn't prefer eighth mile to a resched. I ran eighth only once and its just over too damn quick....
I wouldn't risk life or limb though... I'll bet they considered it at the original race but if they were concerned about the track, it peob was a moot point,

BTW great job at the keystones.. I was listening in at home.... & pullin for you. Its cool listening in when they go round robin.

Thanks Angelo. The round robin thing is good in that you don't get any time to over think what you're doing. It's a pain though when i'm trying to take my weather #s and they're rushing you.

Morning everyone, its a cool clear 52 degrees going up to 70. The wind has died down and should not be an issue for today.

Stock is out first with Super Stock to follow. I think the day will go fast baring any unforeseen incidences.

For those of you following the stock points, Dustan Lowell's dq and Joe Santangelo going out in the second round could leave the door open for a few racers to take the D1 title.

For your weather nuts here are the numbers for this morning.

Temp 52
Humid 63%
Bar 29.84
Da 114 feet
Wind cross 2-4mph

For those of you wondering its a cool crisp morning here at Atco - perfect Fall weather for a race - the jet is running and final preps are being made by both Joe Sways' staff and the NHRA team led by Director Lang .Start is to be in a little more than half an hour and plenty of racers are out parading to the scales etc .

Couple of final things - I was a little late getting going this morning thanks to Gloria Ley - why ? She was serving hot sticky buns with walnuts - just can't pass them up .Second there was plenty to talk about this morning - but i'm here partly because Kenny promised year end bonus checks to the reporters ( listening Sal ) who are in attendance today and partly because I just couldn't stay home .

Back soon ........As usual ClassRacer will be here for you .
