Re: Live from Maple Grove Raceway - NHRA Auto Plus Nationals

I feel bad for all the sportsman racers that went to the grove early in the week & then they cancel racing till next weekend.

My wish would be to have maybe 3 $10,000. S/SS races here in Div.1 in the course of the year. But the only bad thing is: We need someone(s) to run them.

Brian & Lee did a Great Job @ Numidia but i think they would rather be racing then watching.

Just my 5 cents worth. (inflation )

wow, good thing Atco divisional was scheduled in the summer, Remember 2010 races. It would have been 4 weekends or more in a row for division 1 racers this year.

Someone along here (excuse me for not "quoting" who) mentioned the insurance surcharge. I do feel that it is totally out of line for a national event participant to have to foot the whole expense here, but in case anyone is interested, EVERYONE pays the surcharge, pros included. And that means that with three teams as of now, Force pays it three times, Schumacher... (oh I can't count that high...). While I don't believe the whole system is fair, there's no favoritism in this case.

Force pays 3 times for 3 drivers,a sportsman enters S/C and a S/G car pays twice for 1 driver.Even the best of us can only drive 1 car at a time........

Maybe they do pay it also BUT there is no insurance charge at the points races or National opens when the Pro fuel junk is not in attendance. If the insurance is because of those cars.....let the pro junk pay their own way. They get all the big round and win money and the best places to pit. Yeah I know they bring in the spectators so raise the price of tickets for the spectators. They are the ones who watch that crap.

The Pro Junk as you call them does pay their own way ! What Rock do you live under?
They Pay insurance like us Sportsman Racers as well as entrance fees! The Pro Teams that I know and that's most of them appreciate the fact that we are there participating at these events along with them!
Do you race at National Events ? Or Divisional Events ? Or any Events?

This is what I don't understand..! Where were all of you when there was the "meeting" in front of the moterhomes? Two people are fighting for racers while the others are in DUH mode. It's so easy for everyone to come on here without a FACE!

This problem was not created by NHRA or Bob Lang. They are just going about there normal business. NHRA racers DO NOT have any balls. When this **** happens, it's so funny to watch. One by one people get on here and bitch. Then next week they will go trailer to trailer and bitch but when an official speaks.... OHHHH they crumble! just like what happen the other day! Bob and Lex show up and almost everyone got on there knees.. IF YOU DON'T TELL SOMEONE THERE DOING SOMMETHING WRONG THEY WILL NEVER KNOW! No ever takes a stand..

Does anyone on this board realize that when we go back they want to have fastest car win class? There is no reason for that! We have FOUR categories, there's enough time to rebuild my stocker in between runs..

So it's not NHRA that is killing this sport. It's the racers that let themselves be hearded around like cattle by the ranch owners DOGS! We need to be the DOGS!

Bitch on people.. Bitch on!

This will start a mountain of hate e-mail to me but what the heck -

I was there like many of you -and listened to the words of Director Lang and Mr.Dudas and didn't hear anything I didn't agree with - in my mind they did what they could under extreme circumstances .If anything the info could have been a little quicker but probably they didn't want to jump the gun into a decision they would regret .Plus the fact we were receiving info from the e-mails of Kent Hanley all day - BTW , thanks Kent - job well done as our rep .

While on that subject - I've been doing this a couple of years now and one question comes to mind - when's the last time your Division Director came to where you were parked and and answered all your questions ? And was subjected to disrespect and ridicule .And still stayed ..........think about it .If I were Mr.Lang the meeting would have been over in the first five minutes .

You can say all you want about they're my friends and I'm pro NHRA but the fact is they weren't forced to come to that parking lot - no bosses told them to ( yes, I had the kahunas to ask ) - they did it to help us understand what was happening and get thru a bad situation .It's my feeling they did everything they could to accomodate us .

As for the SuperStock class deal - seems to me class will be run in a normal fashion according to the schedule that has been posted on the Division One website .

One last thing - I do have a face ( maybe not pretty but one none-the-less ) and I'm not anyone's dog ...................

Keith...the way to show them is to not give them your money.....that hurts the NHRA the worst.....I never entered...just a little fed up right now with the national event traveling circus......It's Glendora thats the problem....Bob Lang and all of the D1 crew bust their asses for us....can't take nothing away from them.......we need more SPORTSNATIONALS !!!!!

Jack I commend you for telling it from the chest...and yes them coming to the racers personally to convey what needed to be done is commendable as well. You take the time and effort to keep racers (and wannabes) informed and certainly do not deserve disrespect. If people are truly fed up with NHRA they should take their $$ elsewhere, might work to the benefit of all by making the suits realize that we are one of their biggest customers and they should be working to improve things for us.

I've been planning on running the Keystones for 2 years now but given their facility issues I end up withdrawing when the forecast looks ominous. Why can't they schedule this race to be the first race in the countdown? Seems logical to me that it would go Reading-St. Louis-Charlotte-Dallas and then head west. Would at least give them a fighting chance against Mother Nature.

Keith, all I can say is, although you did speak out, you have been to enough NHRA races to know this can happen. Your as guilty of being herded as anyone else by the fact you paid your 305 to the ranch owners to attend the slaughter.

Disrepect Jack? Come on, we the racers have been disrepected for years. You are a puppet. When you disagreed with what they said why didn't YOU say anything. Just stand back and take more pictures... Wait I think there's a phone ringing. Yup hey lex shut your phone off. That's disrepect.
Your not Lang.. The funny thing is Jack I'LL say this to your face. Plus NHRA should have had someone there. At the parking lot. Nhra not Maple Grove..
These people need to know face to face there are many problems. If i didn't say anything about class they wouldn't have fixed that problem. But Jack you would have been ok with that.. RIGHT!

The reason for only 36 Comp cars is because the quota limit was put at 35. There was at least 5 more ( that I heard of) that wanted in with many grade points that couldn't get in,

Answer:
The Track Owners and Operators carry their own insurance as required by NHRA to operate a Lucas Oil event. Less Racers- Less Fans = less insurance.
I have been told that the largest claims come from pit vehicle accidents during National events. Hence why we that have pit vehicles need to have insurance on them, I know I do, $500 K in Liability on my Golf Car and Scooter. $150 per year
For the record I don't agree with the premiums we pay per event, only adds to the high cost of Racing at a National events. Add that to Fuel, Food, and Maint. adds up to about $1000 to $1200 per event, even more for longer distances.
Bottom line is if you wanna Play then you have to Pay !
But don't criticise the Pros, they pay along with us.

1996 Columbus, the race was postponed a week due to weather. The next weekend, S/S, Stk, S/C, S/G and S/ST was postponed until September. Just the Pro's, T/A and Comp ran the second weekend.

No discounts, but tickets were good for the second weekend, as well as September (we couldn't make it back in Sept to watch though).

I know that the year that the Gators ran sportsman in Orlando, spectators got in free of charge. Not sure if that is what they will do in this case.

But don't criticise the Pros, they pay along with us.

But the point you seem to miss is......Unless the Pro cars are at the race the sportsmen do not have to pay the extra $95 insurance included in their entry fee. To me and a lot of others that means the sportsmen are paying part if not most of the extra insurance so the fuel cars can run in case they kill someone again. More sportsmen racers vs the pro car count means they are carrying the load. This has nothing to do about golf carts. Most sportsmen racers could care less about top fuel and Ha Ha cars. They screw up the track anyway. Pro stock is the better part of the pro show but even that has become a joke over the years.
