Re: Original hemi dart information

This has been a great read.....

So... I work for a luxury car dealer in Boise and last night I had a customer stop in to look at a used Tahoe. Somehow we got around to talking about old cars and I mentioned that I still owned my 1st car... a 70 Charger with a bigblock.. and he says he used to have a Hemi Cuda'.... I asked what year ? He says '68... I think "yeah right"... not another one of these guys.... I asked if it was Black thinking I would trip him up.. He says "only the fenders and the hood...because they were fiberglass... WOW !!!
What was your name again ? .... Jerry Taylor he says... Now I'm excited !! I meet some high end people at this job but an original owner of a BO23 trumps them all....The car was "Gentle Ben" ...
I didn't move to Idaho until around 83 but I have heard about the car from mopar circles and racing at Firebird.
He said that he also ran the 1st funny car in Id . A 68 Barracuda...Apparently he ran the west coast circuit ...but most of you already know that.

He said last he knew the car was in MN. Which is interesting since that is where I grew up and just went racing with my brother at BIR
( DonneyBrook to some) last July.

I will ask him next time we talk if he has any pics from the day

About 10-11 years ago there was a Jerry Norton that had a black LO23 Dart that he won "best of show" at a employee/customer parking lot carshow in Oak Park Michigan. The magazine photo that I have shows a extreamly clean looking car with no obvious modifications except the addition of front side-marker lights and dog-dish hubcaps (did they come with them?) on steel wheels. Does anybody know if this car is accounted for? The article does not say what transmission it had.

There was a black Dart from FLA and a black Dart from MI that I was interested in purchasing. I found out that both of those particular cars that I found were rebodys, so I quickly moved on in my search.

Found that reference chasing the whereabouts of the Johnny Rivers Hemi Dart.

I don't want to get into any arguments about re-bodied cars but I put the history together on the Norton Dart -an original MSO still exists. The car was tubbed in the 70-80's and later the rear floorpans were replaced. Note that some of the original owners put front side marker lights in the fenders. The original owner of this car did as well.

Norton's car is legit. It did have very heavy floor pan (possibly wrong pan Cuda) and tub work. Originaly the Hustlin Hemi car 4 spd car.

I'll post more pictures of the Dart when I get a chance to scan them. I've got a bunch.

Is there an "original hemi barracuda information" thread somewhere? Compared to the Dart I've got WAY more pictures of the two Barracudas he owned. I feel like I stumbled on buried treasure. Pictures of all 5 of the original Hemi cars he owned over the years (2 Belvederes, 2 Barracudas, 1 Dart).

Jarad , I am the owner of the Circus car that you granpa raced at SIR [Seattle Int Raceway] I would love to see some of your pictures from back in the day. I am trying to figure out what paint sceme to use , I like the paint from 1985 . I believe your granpa was the most successful with the car , am I right? Re: Original hemi dart information

I'm going to throw this out there, hoping someone will bite on it.
There was a Hemi Dart that was running around the east coast area that the owner/car was known as "Two Scoop Lido". The nickname of "Two Scoop" came from the fact of the car having a tunnel ram installed & a hood scoop that was attached ON TOP of the original S/S hood scoop. The name "Lido" I'm quessing was the guys nickname????
Anyone able to help me with this????. Any & all suggestions appreciated

Fiqured it's been awhile since I posted a pic of my unknown soldier, so here's one of my favorites with the one & only Mr. Norm.

Great read here on old New York street racers :

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=280240

There are a couple of references in here to the "Cross Bay Dart".
I have not been able to find any more than that.
Is this a legit LO23 or something else all together?

Does it have any relevance here?

Daryl, here's a good pic of two in a single shot:

Re: Original hemi dart information

Two I do not remember seeing here. But we have been here a while!

Dean Tait. Said on one site to be the Johnny Rivers Dart:

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...Number=3078038

Craft(or Croft) and Bishop.
Draglist shows a Lynnwood Craft from Vinson, Virginia in a 68 Dart. Maybe this is that one?

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...Number=3077940

Joe Edge. Arlington TX. Is this possibly a converted 68?

Re: Original hemi dart information

Maybe another or two as I find 'em:
Hmmmm, 67 grille and no side marker lights on rear quarters?

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...Number=3078068

Bill Welker, Clarksville TN. 4 speed

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...Number=3078238

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...Number=3078192

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...Number=3078137
Wonder who that is in the other lane???

Sorry if any are repeats. Found 'em in an old topic over on MoParts.com.and twincityoutlaws.

Just noticed the same two trees in the background. Never would have given it a second look. Good eye!

I hope no one thinks I am "over posting" here. The original intent of identifying Liteweight's Dart has become one of the best reference points for Hemi Darts on the net.

I get in search mode sometimes. (therapy away from work)

One day some random picture is going to find the clue we need to identify Daryl's Dart.

Hey Tom
Thanx for sharing the great pictures from your collection.Easiest way of posting larger pictures is to open an online picture account like photobucket.
http://s1115.beta.photobucket.com/
Upload from your saved pix on your computer onto it, then it's just copy & paste from that site onto any forum. No resizing to fit format. Real easy man, even a guy as computer illiterit (see can't even spell that right) as I am, can do it. Charlie A taught me that one.
