I am looking for pix of LO Darts from that time period 1975-1982??? Don't have to be SS/AA specific. Can even be bracket cars or whatever.
I have a lead that my car was raced @ etown durring this time period. It could have been silver/grey & orange/red or dark gray to black. Rumour has it there was a tunnel ram on this thing at one time, & to cover it there was a hood scoop mounted ON TOP of the original SS scoop.

I'm pretty sure that the Dart in the far lane is the Balzekas Motor Sales Hemi Dart (Southside of Chicago)
from South Archer Avenue, Chicago. They were Grand-Spaulding Dodge's 'crosstown rival'.

That Dart had a lace paint job, similar to Larry Griffith' car.

Hemi A-Go-Go, Ken Holwick out of Salem, Ohio in the near lane.

I'm pretty sure that the D/Dart posted by Tom Kasch, that was campaigned Ralph Costa and Ted Spehar, was the first LO23 built by Chrysler.

Sorry, no I don't. I found that one somewhere on the net looking for anything that may help find the history of Liteweight's Hemi Dart.

I went searching some old Tennessee drag strip internet sites and can't find any more pics either.

There has to be more out there. Somewhere.

Charlie,
Sorry for putting this on the wrong forum but do you know if anyone has the list of a990s (dodges) sold from Grand Spaulding dodge. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Does Jim Remlinger of Winnona, Minnesota communicate here on the forums? I'm fairly certain that he had two genuine '68 HEMI Darts in his collection a year or two ago. One being a black original 4 speed car which he and his son had restored to perfection and the other being a dark red car remaining in its as raced in the 80s condition. Does anyone know the lineage of these cars?

I have looked @ Jim's Black LO & BO cars. Both beautifull. They were For Sale a few years back, but am unaware if they sold.
I didn't know they had another Dart tho. Was this the one that Engelhart was selling??? DeRosa's???

Re: Original hemi dart information

I do believe that this was the Dart that Engelhardt was selling. Dark red with very original interior and typical black rattle can inner fender wells. I believe it was caged and tubbed on SS springs like so many 80s era racers were.

Jim bought the black dart, the black barracuda from me and the red dart that I ran at a few nostalgia events in the early 90s which was the John De Rosa car at a Mecum auction.

Draglist: Lynnwood Craft, Vinton, Virginia.

Pro Stock 68 Dart 4 speed.

Owner: Breedon & Edwards

Guessing it's the same car or driver.

Could it have been the Bob Hodge, Beach Bros. Dodge LO23?

That one was from Virginia according to the L023 original owners list.

Cannot find anything else on it.

I own it now, posted pics earlier in this great thread. It will be in a couple magazines soon as a barn find. It was originally owned by Richard Shipley out of Baltimore, MD and raced out east for a year before heading west to Joe DeSantis who raced it with a different paint paint scheme below.

June 1970

West Hampton Dragstrip (Eastern, Long Island)

That is a factory Super/Stock 1968 Hemi Dart in the far lane,
which is probably running Pro/Stock in 1970.

Now being from that area, I never saw that Hemi Dart. It sure
doesn't look like the Manhattan Auto Parts Dart from the
North Manhattan/South Bronx.

Mark,

You are the man....!!!

So, is it possible that Rufus 'Brooklyn Heavy' Boyd purchased the Dart,
or was he an agent setting up 'Match Races' for Herb in the Spring of 1970.

West Hampton Drag Strip (Long Island, NY) did put on many Match-Races between
Pro/Stock and Super Stock cars back then.

Re: Original hemi dart information

Paul,
Herb had the car well after he went to work for S&M - you might see his friend Danny Byrd driving it during that time. If I had to guess, I would say that this is probably an AHRA meet -

I did suspension on Richard's Dart direct from Grand Spualding Dodge when he brought it home from Detroit. Check upper control arm for rework . They may still be on the car, may not as it has been throught many owners.I was with Sam Punnity the night Richard sold the car to him. Don't know who purchased it from Sam. Was ID tag on the car and if so what is the #, if you don't mine . Just interested.

Hi Jack, thanks for the reply! When the car was located the original suspension was gone. The VIN is 391720. Looking for any pictures especially in Poison Dart paint as that is what I want to restore it back to. I have a copy of the ad from the National Dragster from September 4, 1970 when Sam was selling it for $3800!

Re: Original hemi dart information

From what I understand only the chrome trim for the vinyl top was put on around the rear window, no top was ever put on and there are no holes for the two A-pillar trim pieces. The original suspension and many of the original parts are on a car in Texas. I am going to paint it in the Poison Dart paint scheme with the Pigmy blowing darts out of a dart gun onto the Poison Dart graphics if I can find better pictures with greater detail.
