I know there are many that have not experienced issues with King bearings and will vouch for them. Due to the issues, others and I have experienced with King bearings, I have not used them since 2017. My "to go" bearings are ACL, Clevite, and when I can find them, Speed Pro. In 2017, we had issues with several Trophy Truck engines with King Bearings. Switched to Clevite and ACL and no more issues. The pictures below are issues that some other engine builders have experienced with King bearings: |
Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Thanks. It looks like plenty of end gap on the lower ring in the cylinder on pic number 4.

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
With the exception of one gage acting a little funny, we don’t know why, Bob Toy did a perfect job of rewiring the pink car. Everything worked the first time after we found a defective part or two.
Thanks Bob Toy |
Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
We finally got to go down the track with the pink car, after a trans change, rewiring, scaling, and suspension components change. Everything worked as advertised. We are ready to go racing!

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Got my gage back from Classic yesterday. I will plug it in and bolt it up, it should take less than 5 min.
We will be going to St. Louis for the Class Racer Revival next week, for the money you can't beat it. You can enter at the gate. We get to be back on Dumbo's engine today. |
Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Parts are a problem. It took forever to get them and then a while to get to fit. My elephant engine is a little picky on what it likes.
I had time to check the correlation between the torque plates and the heads, not perfect but pretty darn close. I got the main bearing clearance variation to .0003. I'm happy with that. Fitting rings today. That means mains are torqued, honing plates are on, and get to use my present from Santa, my Total Seal ring filer. With a little practice removing .001 from the end gap is easy and predictable. |
Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Starting on a new block for Dumbo. I have to check bunch of stuff, remove sharp edges, and remove all of those little shavings. Went to order a new stud for oil pickup mounting 14 to 15 weeks out if I’m lucky. I know I have a few hidden in some bar stock, I just have to find them.
