Because there are some still unaccounted for.......the mystery continues.

Even if this car popped out of nowhere, with no history, the car itself proves exactly what it is.

Where did this SS/B 1968 Dart end up.

Did Arlon Vanke get this Dart, and run it in A/MP in 1969.

Finally figured why I like your Dart so much. It is basic red and reminds me of the JRT Dart. First Hemi Dart I ever saw. Fast is pretty enough. Yours and his.....just sit right with me.

I actually went down that track a few times, one day in the summer of '67. My cousin and I were on our way to Canada for Expo '67, the World's Fair that year. We stopped and spent the night at a campground near the airport. The next morning we discovered we were next to a dragstrip. Drove in the open gate, no one was there so we did what teenagers do. We made about 3 passes each! Coming back from the last trip down a guy shook his finger at us, smiling, and pointed towards the gate.
A yellow 1967 Dodge Coronet convertible at Niagra Dragway was my first time down a "real" quarter mile dragstrip at age 15.

I lose it's past from the early 80's back to 1968.I am enclosing some pictures of it when it was purchased from Lou Vignona back in 1985??.There is one picture that shows a decal from the 1977 Bracket Nationals.Maybe someone will regognize it.
This is what I know of the car so far.Lou Vignona said he purchased it from some guy in Mt.Kisco(Cisco??) N.Y in the early 80's.It was in an underground parking lot of some apartment complex. The guy told Lou that it was Charlie Castaldo's Auto. car. I have since found out that it is not Castaldo's car thru talking to one of Charlie's crew members at the time by the name of Charlie Licata. When Lou purhased the car,he had it painted white. This is how Tim Henessey purchased it in 1985.
I have heard some storys about an original Hemi Dart in the N.Y. area that was known as the "two scoop Lido" car.I understand that this Lido guy installed some aftermarket scoop on top of the original scoop. Thus the name.I have spoke with Tim Henessey about this & he did say the original scoop was really messed up so he had to replace it when he restored the car.
If anyone can help me out on this,I sure would appreciate it as I have been searching for info. now for over 3 years, maybe 4.Any little detail may help no matter how small it may be.
Thankyou; Daryl

I guess I wouldn't say more history since they were out the same time. I think they may have gotten more attention back in the day because of Sox and Martin, or heck might just seem that way to me since i'v mostly been a Cuda guy myself. But I love Darts also.

Same paint scheme as my (RIchard Shipley) Hemi Dart. Maybe we can start with the latest list, mine is #18 on the list, so that leaves 69 more to put names on that own them today. BTW, Billy "The Kid" Stepp's Hemi Barracuda #1 is for sale at the Mecum auction Sunday after this.

That is my car!!! I have had the car since 1975, and a pet peeve I have is, people want to know whose car it was, and I do understand they want the history, BUT there are a lot of us, that have had these cars much longer than the people that originally had them, and taken much better care of that history, than they did, because at that time, it was just a race car, and they'd get another one next year. So I tell them it is mine. When I got it in '75, it was nothing, but a cut up Super Stock/Pro Stocker. With the help of my friends, and relatives, we have rebuilt it twice, where Preston Honea/Ray Rixman Dodge, and the people that had it after him, did nothing but thrash, and trash it, as a race car.
I don't really have any pictures of it, because when I contacted Preston Honea, I was told several different stories, about pictures he had of it, but the end result was I never got any! I would be interested in seeing the picture, and if you want any info on it, feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Dan Morgan

Dan i have had the same problem with selling my dads a990 car over the years they want its prior history , well there is none!!!!!! i can tell who the original purchaser was and he has no original pictures of the car when new, but my dad made the car famous setting records and winning races.
in the situation with this thread the only real way to verify the rest of the hemi darts is to ask about the new pictures of unknown cars, and have the owners comment about there where abouts . the real story is will we ever verify daryl's dart? that is what this thread was started for.

i would like to see over the next few years the rest of the missing pieces fit in the puzzle to close out the dart controversy, look it has been well over 4 years this has been going on, and the amount of information disclosed is amazing at worst!!!!!! i really hope someone is savy enough to take all of what is here and right a book about these cars, it would certainly be a complete history .

I also hope that Daryl's question with his dart gets answered. This thread brought me to the site and it is also special because I know Daryl and I also know the car. I have learned more about these cars from this thread than all the other sources available to me. I really hope that a book can be put together to gather and show all the information about these cars. I would also like to see one written with as much info on the cudas. I am a big block chevy guy, and I was at the track when these cars were new, and they have left a lasting impression on me.

Hey Craig
there has been a book published by Jim Schild a few years back specially bout the BO & LO cars. It is the most complete book I've seen to date on the background, history & build on these cars. A GREAT READ loaded with pictures I've never seen before. It's definately a must have for anyone who is into these things. I google searched for a link to it, but can't find it. Jim, can you help me out here???
Mark Janaky has been collecting information on these cars also,& has a collection of the most pictures I've ever seen. He's also been working on a book. Mark, care for an update?? Haven't seen you frequent this thread for awhile. Care for a visit??

I'm in the middle of a thrash trying to get my car back together for Mopars in the Park in Farmington, Mn. June1-2. It's Sox & Martin's 50th Anniversery with 20 of their original cars being on display. Never before has this happened.

Hemi D 68,

Regarding the Preston Honea / Ray Rixman SS/BA Dart.

Kwik-Way Speed Engineering (out of St. Louis, Missouri) did the
prep work on that car.

In 1968, it ran primarily in AHRA {S/S Eliminator) Events.

Lost to Herb McAndless at the AHRA World Finals at Kansas City
International Raceway in October 1968.

Not sure why you are showing me hostility. You asked a question, and got your answer. All I did was quote the larger photo. I did not mean to offend anyone.

there are a few really good pages/groups on Facebook too, i think some members here also post in some of them. very cool to see some of the pics and information that gets posted there. i think the image i posted came from the Stock/Superstock/Modified Doorslammers group and i caught it paging through pics, not sure who originally posted it there. i hadn't seen it before and liked the paint scheme alot. i realized later that i had the other picture of the car saved from some time ago and i think the different paint schemes are interesting, reminded me a bit of the Hustlin Hemi car.

Dave,
Something interesting I noticed is the car has been converted to a '69 configuration in the second picture. When I got the car, it was in the '69 configuration, and had really been hacked up, I think to run the Pro Stock circuit in the St. Louis, Mo area.

Re: Original hemi dart information

The Regional Zone book lists a 1968 Hemi Dart (4-Speed) shipped to Western Missouri in May 1968.

And possibly ended up in the hands of Jim Clark Dodge (State Street, Kansas City).

This car has never been accounted for....

Any info that you can share here is appreciated. I think we have a overload of lurkers already, considering the viewing numbers to this thread, so don't let one comment rub you the wrong way.

Jack
