Jeff,
How much bracket racing do you actually do?
Bracket racing sucks.
In NC you have double entries,2 rds of buybacks, and 7-9 rds to win $1,000-$2,000 in top or $600-$1,000 in Footbrake.
When is the last time you went more than 6 rds to win an IHRA race?
In NC you normally have to go 3-5 rds just to get $25-$50 bucks.
Not a good comparison there.
Contingency is O.K. my win at the World Finals was worth over $8,000 grand with the purse and the contingency. It could have been more.
I've won divisionals that paid close to $3,000.
Not bad either.

Chip- The problem is that a National in 2000 paid $8,000 to win with contingency. Everything has gone up but the purse & the contingencys have gone down.

I don't think you will see the purses raised (especially at the divisionals) because IHRA makes the tracks pay the purse. Why doesn't IHRA pay the purse and let the tracks make some money for hosting the events?

I went to Clay City and Quaker City and they have the night of fire in conjunction with their points meets. Those two tracks had packed stands last year. THat is probably the only way they tracks made any money holding the two day points meets. You can't depend on the racers and their crew members to foot the cost for a whole weekend of racing.

This is why Kanawha Valley doesn't have a race anymore, and I am sure others are not too far behind.
NHRA probably operates in much the same way at their points meets and opens.

Clay city DEFINATELY got the shaft last year.. I heard they broke even by them time it all worked out, and only due to the huge spectator crowd..

Will the city have a divisional race next year?? WE will see... They wanted a sportsnationals but IHRA wont give them one..

SF=lost ball in high weeds

Bryan,
$120 for SF. I beleive that is a 4th rd lost. How much would you have got at a bracke t race for a 4th rd loss? Probably 0.

Everyone is missing the boat here.

IHRA/NHRA needs racers to participate
IHRA/NHRA needs tracks for the racers.

Tracks need racers to make a profit
Tracks need IHRA/NHRA for an event.

Racers need tracks
Racers need IHRA/NHRA.

The real problem is everybody wants to hit a homerun.
The Sanctions need to make a profit
The track needs to make a profit
The racers want more money.

I think we need them (IHRA/NHRA/Tracks) more than they need us.

Bottom line
Do you want to race or sit home and look at your racecar-towrig and talk about the good ole days.

I'm going racing.

Under this new format what would the divisional events be for? $135 entry for a non-points bracket race with comparable to lower payout than the local saturday bracket program which carries a $50 entry isn't going to draw too many. I know this year at the beginning of the year I knew I wasn't going to be able to make the Martin divisional double (my closest track). At that point I decided that it wasn't worth trying for even divisional points without significant travel expense to claim all possible divisioanl opportunities - so I attended no divisionals and ran locally a little more.

Hopefully there will be an announcement at and/or after the banquet this weekend with the details. There may be more to it that we figure.

I understand them having to try new ways to attract more participants. I'd rather race a different format than not have a place to race at all. If the format speculation is somewhat correct, it will give the person who doesn't travel the circuit a shot at qualifying for the championship race, which may draw out more people for events closer to home. I just don't like a one race shootout format for the championship.
