Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
For what it's worth, It appears that VMP has purged the IHRA LOGO from the web site.

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Larry,
The IHRA logo is still there at VMP. It's to the right of the turkey, but took a little bit to load. But from what Dean said, I got a bad feeling he's right. On a brighter note, dragracingonline mentions a rumor of a Nitro Jam event in Tuson at Southwestern International Raceway for 2011. It's at the bottom of the Quaker City announcement. http://www.dragracingonline.com/agen...xii_11-34.html |

Oh, BTW, did you see Myron's post? Since y'all like internet rumors so much, the IHRA Nitro Jam as SIR in Tuscon MUST be a done deal. DragRacingOnline.com said so. NHRA's empire MUST be crumbling. Larry - As Myron noted, the IHRA Member Track and IHRA Summit Super Series logos are intact on VMP's website. |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
IHRA released it's 2011 first quarter Pro-Am schedule today. Division 9 Pro-Am at Rockingham March 25-27.

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
I like both tracks, and it doesn't matter to me personally which sanctioning body either of them go with because I happily work them both.
I would think that if Rockingham was going to move to NHRA, they'd also want at least acknowledgment of the possibility of hosting a national event some time in the near future. I also think that would require some major facility alterations. I could be wrong, but the left lane grandstands at The Rock are too close to the racing surface to meet NHRA national event safety requirements. From my experiences at The Rock, Steve Earwood is not just a hands-on track owner, he genuinely cares about his customers (both racers and fans) as well as the local community. I was talking to a hotel manager during one of my visits there a few years ago, and she told me that after NASCAR dropped the Rockingham oval track from their regular racing schedule, they would have gone out of business without Earwood's dedication to keeping our form of racing alive and well in Rockingham. I hope to find myself back there again in 2011....maybe as soon as March. :) |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Well SIR already has a D-7 Race scheduled for NHRA in October.....got to love the off-season silly season!

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
All I can say is, while on the Left Coast attending an awards shin-dig, I got into a conversation with some NHRA big wig who was really up-beat on the VMP thing and claimed that D1 would then have a 7th LODRS soon..
Sounds good, but as I get older, I would say give E-town a second race.. it's only an hour away as opposed to 7 or 8.. |
