Macon National Dragway Jeffersonville, Ga.

Back when I worked there in the early 90's it was called Twiggs County Dragway

You bet I have, got down to 4 cars in a $5000 race and got put out by Ike Hamma in his Daytona...he put a .007 package on me. Was there several times to see hemi cars match race the Mustangs.

Ron, the name of Hazelhurst was "Little Dixie Drag Strip" and the track NW of Jackson on Route 49 was "Jackson Sports Arena".

Ed, I've raced at Clarksville and have done quite well there. Anybody who has ever been there will never forget the "Loser's Bracket" which got bigger every round!

Bear in mind there was another Clarksville track, (quarter-mile), only eight miles west of the current track, too.

It was an old air base. The track was concrete went down hill and up a hill. When I went, in the late late sixties, they called it Camp Wheeler outside of Macon, GA. I bet Woodro remembers...Frank

Bret,
Thanks for the names of those two tracks as I had surely let their names slip by me. Almost seems like another lifetime ago. I found a picture not long ago of Albert Ray Dulaney in the Fugitive Chevy gasser from Jackson Sports Arena. I was only 8 or 9 when I visited that track and the very first pass I ever made at a dragstrip was at Little Dixie and that was shortly after it closed. The original racing surface is still there and is on property owned by a friend of mine. Although you can't tell there was a track there anymore from the road you can still see Little Dixie's racing surface from the air and tell it.
The now defunct Riverside Raceway in Pearl, Ms. was my real start in drag racing. James Alford was the original builder/owner of it and lived a couple of doors down from my aunt. I remember being one of the first to actually make a pass down the track before it officially opened. I can still remember when they ran the pros at points meets there and weekly Stock/Superstock races early on. They tore down the track some years back as it was on 16th section land was replaced with Pearl High School.
