This is th thread that contains much of the info about the auction I wrote about...Chuck Sharin enters the thread and gives his knowledge about the car, some good pics of him and the car and his C/SM in the thread too. His screen name is 'CamaroRus'.

Also there are links to Youtube that show the auction, with RJ on the stage and the whole thing.
Also in the thread are links to the RS/Z-28 that caused some grief.

Too bad the collector car market has devolved into forgeries, restamps, rebodies, and everything else.

The way to watch BJ is to record it and then fast forward through commercials. Thank God for DVR,

A few years ago good friend and car collector bought what was suppose to be an original L89 69 RS/SS 396/375 alumunum head car (only made 311 I believe) just like Sherwood and Michael Allens Soul Survivor car but this one is Code 10 Black (rarest color) with houndstooth int. optioned out the ying yang and he called me before bidding on it to see what I thought it was worth. I said anything under $150k is a deal so they represented the car as numbers matching and original and he paid $98k plus the 10% and had it shipped up to MD. He thought he hit the lotto but him being essentially a Mopar guy he is not that keen on Chevy's and was going by it being represented as numbers matching etc. Hell like I told him if it's not right you would probably have a good lawsuit on them if they represented it as #'s matching etc. He called me up and I went up there to look at it and this thing was obviously a clone which I see all the time in this business... the block was a newer 454 that was re-stamped with new style GM aluminum heads cowl tag was questionable was never an RS car originally and the list went on and on. So we had Z28 Camaroman (Jerry MacNeish) come out to verify what I already knew and he blew it out of the water big time. If you are ever buying a high end Chevrolet muscle car it is well worth the money to have someone of Jerry's calibur to look at it first. Well my buddy contacted BJ and they put it all on the dealer who consigned the car and weaseled right out of the situation and when all the smoke cleared the dealer who I will not name had to take the car back and gave him a REAL 66 Corvette conv 327/365hp car and a late model BMW M3 and $20k in cash and settled out of court. The best part is I did a little research on the car (muscle car bus. is a small world) and found out the dealer bought the car at another auction the previous year and the car was represented as a clone at this auction and went for around $45k and was in the exact same condition. Well the auction was video taped and we got a copy of the tape of them buying the car as a clone so at this point he really had them by the balls so they settled out of court and my buddy actually came out ahead after all said and done. But I can tell you first hand there is alot of BS going on at most of these collector car auctions and for the most part BJ is where you wanna sell...... NOT BUY.

Did you make a "TYPO" Rob......1966 Corvettes never had a 365 HP (solid lifter cam) small block engine combo.

I know you Chevy and Ford guy's didn't notice but every time a Mopar came up on the block they would go to commercial......only a handful were seen especially during "Prime Time".
The reason: Ford and Chevy were sponsors for the auction......Mopar wasn't.

I was at the auction the entire week. (Working, not buying) Yes cars went for insane money. Lots of cars auctioned for charity as well.
The bargains were in the early morning hours between 10am and about noon. Saw a great little 1963 Nova all original with about 31,000 miles sell for around 6K. Would have been fun for driving around if nothing else.
Oh and the Bugatti Veryon that Jackson had to buy back after the Vegas bidding fiasco last fall?
He drove it in each day and parked it in a corral by the staging lanes. It had BJ decals on the doors and windshield.
Those are my random thoughts on the week in Scottsdale.

I did the B-J last Thursday, the Bugatti was unbelievable. The Rolls Silver Cloud and Koenigsegg CCR at the Dupont Registry exhibit were amazing. Salesman at the DR told us that the black CCR there had been sold to a 70 year old guy who cooly wrote out a check for 1.2 Million on the spot and the funds were verified as "no problem". Okeedokee! Guess he doesn't have to worry about SS checks going dry in a few years.

Ford display was unbelievable, (hey Ford, how about some contingency $); almost makes me consider a Ford..BOSS 302 is really nice....but the topper? A restored Isetta going across the blocks at 42K! Yikes!

The highlight of my week was bumping into Jimmy Ayers (from Valvoline/NHRA midway) who was there working the Pit Pal booth. I had not seen him since he was so sick a while back. Embarassing that I had not been out to his shop to see him since he live a few miles from me here in GA.
