Billy,
I call it the way it is and don't need your patronizing.

One interesting fact is that as discussed earlier, one of the first users of intake manifold adapters in the 1970's was Ed Hamburger on his Mopar 340 and 360 Super Stock engines. The adapter allowed Ed to use a SBC intake. Therefore, since the 1970's NHRA has been allowing spacers and adapters in Super Stock class.

As a matter of fact the Ed Hamburger and Bruce Bachelder (former NHRA Tech Rep) Mopar used the adapter with the SBC intake until Offenhauser came out with the SBM Port-O-Sonic intake.

This is a silly rule and that's being kind.

If the concern is the intake side of the head then make changes to head rule or maybe enforce the current rules.

Prohibit spacers? You have to wonder who if anyone at NHRA has any technical knowledge.

Bryon Worner, I believe that you run a SB Chevy, correct? An engine which probably has a wider selection of available race style intake manifolds than all the other engines that can run in Super Stock combined. In your opinion, do you think that it is "fair" that a SBC can choose from 30 or more intake manifolds, but a less popular engine should be restricted to 5000 RPM "RV" style dual plane intakes, if that is all that is commercially available? Frankly, if a 100 % hand fabricated sheet aluminum intake is legal in S/S, under the "any intake manifold allowed" , I really can not see why one should not be allowed to do whatever modifications are required to make any intake fit any cylinder head, provided it all fits under the hood.

I think that sometime soon this rule is going to get clarified.

The new ruling is not in the intake manifold paragraph of the rule book. It is in the cylinder head paragraph. Spacer plates are being used to make up for what is cut off the intake side of the cylinder head. The heads are being cut at a severe angle so the valve cover bolt holes remain intact and runner volumes can meet the spec.

Yes, I know. What I meant was a clarification would be made on intake spacers.

Yes. I do think it’s fair! Nobody forces anybody, first to race super stock, second, to race any particular make or model car. So, you should do some research on what all you would need to make your combination run, within the rules, which are obviously changing.
