Never. Same goes for an aluminum center section in a 69 Mustang.
Just old "junk" to them.
Although you guys pay in a bunch of money for entries. They don't care though.
I wonder how much this shakedown is worth?

Most likely inevitable. In a way I kind of like the car.
Lets play a game: Guess the shipping weight and NHRA horsepower :)
Im in at 2900 pounds and 325 hp?

Something seperate from the car itself:

Is this the same situation Chevy, Ford, and Dodge are in this decade+? With only a single High Performance model or a Factory Package in the Classification Guide? With no "normal" cars from those Makes?

I guess this means the cobrajets can run a turbo 200, right?

Well...they already run the TH-400 and Powerglide.
Due to the weight and torque, I do not think a TH-200 will live in an FS car.

Or did Toyota buy GM while nobody was looking? I really doubt that this so called "Production" Toyota car is available at the Toyota dealership with a GM Turbo 400 transmission connecting the engine to the , I assume, Toyota rear axle assembly.

Rory,
It is the same situation when cars that were available with a Powerglide only, were allowed to run a 3-speed auto. In the case of this car, it is available with a GM transmission from the factory. Therefore, they are applying the same rule as allowing to run a TH-200 in lieu of the OEM TH-350 or TH-400. Even if GUMP ran the OEM GM transmission, there are already parts such as high performance valve bodies and torque converters in the market. Also, Sonnax and TransGo make high performance internal components for the OEM transmission.

why would you even want a 9 inch ? aside from some gear ratio options and ease to swap center section there is no performance advantage other then maybe the gear option ratios offered but I doubt much if any . Further more from what I understand the 12 bolt has less reciprocating weight( I don't know that for a fact ) but I did read somewhere some of the fast Hemi Cars has 12 bolts in them if I recall I could be wrong .

Joe, and when when NHRA decided to allow 3 speed automatics to replace the 2 speed Powerglide, the 3 speeds allowed were required to be of the same manufacturer, and directly bolt to the engine. Last I checked, (and I was a Toyota dealership tech for 24 years before I retired), and although we did have a Subaru powered model, none of cars or trucks came with GM built transmissions. I wonder how much $$$ Toyota had to slide across the table at the NHRA office, to get this car, which is looking more like a Factory GT/"Paper Tiger" car, into the NHRA Classification Guide?

There was actually a discussion about using a Toyota rear. The "no truck rears" got us there. I personally feel that would have been much cooler. But, the rules say a 9 inch is OK.

This Toyota AND the Copo,Mustang and Challenger’s would be SUPER COOL if NHRA had created an FX class instead of including them in stock eliminator.
