Well it is another beautiful morning here at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. We are due to get 2 time trials today, then run class. Engines can't be started til 8, then stock runs 1st at 8:15. I will give you the DA #'s after we run. Right now it is cool and windy.

Good luck today and thanks for the reporting and pics.
Have you seen the McClanahans yet?

Larry Hill 07-16-2010 10:47 AM

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing

Well we just made our 1st run and boy is it fast out there. And the track is really hooking. Lots of nice wheelies this morning. I believe 79 cars went down. I know I missed at least the first 2. The DA was 549'. A couple of cars left before the tree was activated so I don't know if they will show up or not. I don't know who was #1. Brian and Ryan both went down this morning, but I haven't talked with them yet. It is definitely faster than Seattle.

Larry Hill 07-16-2010 12:24 PM

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing

DA was 869' the 2nd run. Everyone's getting ready for class. Lambeck still hasn't shown his hand.

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing

1st round of class the air was 1800'. Most people hooked very well, but Norton and Bedford did not. We won that round, but Lambeck just got even with us for last week in eliminations. He beat us 10.18 to a 10.23. Larry took a big nap, too. So it is Lambeck and Gaynor in the finals. It is really getting hot here now. 86 degrees. We didn't have a head wind that time, so mph picked up a little.

Dyno 07-16-2010 04:23 PM

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing

Larry, what was the difference in ET amd MPH from Thunder Valley, SD, Seattle, and Sonoma with the same setup in your car? All we see here in MN is the bad air. goodluck, Dyno

Larry Hill 07-16-2010 05:28 PM

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing

The air was 1898' the 2nd round of class. Lambeck had a 1.31 60' to our 1.35. So we both hooked. The 3rd round has been bumped til at least after the 1st round of pros, also super stock's 3rd round of qualifying has been bumped.

Dan the best part of the west coast racing is the low humidity. My car realy likes low humidity, of course 29+ barometor doesn't hurt either. Track has been good as you can tell by the pictures, Hewes' Mustang was the only car that really smoked them at the hit. There are some fast cars out here and a lot of great fans.

We have first round in one hour, then two sessions of pros then three more rounds today. First round we have three sets of heads-up runs; Pauley vs Method, Jerome vs Faul, and Gaynor vs Stein.

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing

We won! WeWon! We won! We got really lucky! Tom Watts was leaking something in the water and they threw him out. Then Larry goes up pre-staged, staged and then the 2 step wire broke. But we won and a little duck tape fixed us up!

More later.

Apparently Larry got some good TV time during the Seattle Sportsman coverage this afternoon.

From another thread:

Talk about TV time! What did the pink Cuda get 30-40 seconds(?), with Frey talking about the wheelstand, cruise, western swing while the camera was rolling.

Nice......

Unk

Larry, I was counting on you! :(

Oh, well, at least I lucked into the Strange award. It was an $800 win light for me. It's about the only consolation I can take away from the race.

Have a safe trip to Denver.

Hey Toby,
I sure wish Larry had taken Durham out for you, too. Good luck in that heads up in the morning. We should be on the road to Denver by then. We plan on getting all loaded up tonight and get out before anybody gets their cars out in the morning. My computer wasn't getting out this afternoon, but Chris called and told us about the tv video. That was really cool. Larry hasn't seen it yet, but he talked to Bob Frey at Seattle and said something about doing a story. But we thought it was going to be on DRC. But that was cool. I have a few more pics that I will try to post later. We had guests here today, so I didn't get any pics today.

Happy Birthday to Tom Gaynor!!

We were just talking with Tom and today is his 60th birthday! Too bad you were a second round runner-up like us. At least you got the class Wally yesterday! It was really nice meeting you at Seattle last week and then again this week. Maybe we will see you at Indy??

I was there when Dave Kommel was telling Larry about the story and how he needed to get some pictures. I'm sure there will be a story on DRC also.

Good luck to you guys in Denver!

Hey Larry, it looked like you were still snoozing when we left this morning. It was nice meeting you and having you for a neighbor this week. Good luck to you this week. Thanks to Mike Cotten and Dave Raybourn for backing us out of the pits. We left the track a little before 7 this morning.

We are going from sea level to over 7000' shortly.

I have a few more pictures from Sonoma I will post when I get a chance.

More later.

Thanks for the nice words.... God Bless you both and have a safe trip!!! Tell Larry it will be even more fun reading his common since post now that I've met him. Please remember to email that pic so I'll have you email address and hopefully I can come visit you when I go to Nashville to see Whitney (my daughter). I left .010 to soon against Jody this morning and then to add insult I ran right on my 10.41 dial. Oh well... that's racing. I'll just win the Arizona race tomorrow to make up for it. Ha...HA... (LOL)

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing

Wow Larry & Patsy,

What a great trip through this great country of ours you two are on! Awesome pictures from Marion & SD (in general), plus all of the rest (especially those taken in Wa., Or., and Northern Cal.), which now underscores why I'm working on relocating northwest from all of the heat here in Phoenix...although I like it better than snow, it gets a bit extreme when frequent daytime highs are 110 +! I bet Mike & BJ Graham were glad to be up there in Sonoma with you and away from this heat...those who went there and entered the Az. nationals, will have a chance to partake in 2nats "stock/super stock", and two divisionals in two weekends...for those who could make the trip, that's alot of bang for the buck!!!

Oh btw, I too saw your interview yesterday and your 30-40 sec.'s of fame (nice car too)! Moreover, I don't know if anyone else saw this, but on the pro qualifying show, they showed four wheelstanding Stock/Super Stock cars pre/post a commercial break! OMG!!! Maybe the other thread about NHRA & ESPN hating our cars is starting to get some attention....and I'm also glad to have heard WJ giving us some due credit in his remarks about how the track needs to be safer for Pro Stock to Stock as well!!!

I wish you two well in Denver, GOD BLESS the remainder of your awesome trip, and I hope you saw the other thread about you Larry being on tv. (with regards to the Golden, Co. Mopar pre-race picnic...I hope they're doing that again this year...I hope you get some pics of it too, I'm homesick for that area). Thanks, and someday I hope to meet you two folks, because you two are obviously great people, and racers to know!!! :)

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing

Well we are rolling thru the desert in Northern Nevada. There is not even a Walmart bag blowing around to hang on a fence post. Every now and then you will see a tumbleweed blowing across the road. Reminds me of old Roy Rogers shows! It is only 100 degrees out here!

Never swerve for a tumbleweed...The just explode when you hit them...very fragile..neat to do and see being done.

Here in Florida we have to import tumbleweed, except we call it tofu. It doesn't explode very often and it doesn't taste anything like chicken! Jim
