A few random notes"

Saw a guy carrying about a dozen ziplock bags of ice through the lanes. Surest sign that it's a class eliminations day.

Yes, it is hot but not nearly as bad as yesterday.

Kevin Helms with a nice holeshot win in the A/Stick final.

Finally, no matter what you opinion of the new cars, it's cool to see the lanes filled with Cobra Jets, COPOs and Drag Paks. I can only imagine that its the same feeling as walking through the Indy lanes in 1968-70 and seeing the original Cobra Jets, Hemi Mopars and big block Camaros.

Thank to all the reporters....Its like Im there.
Kevin I don't think so ..Ask anyone 129 or more on the qualifying sheet.
All the new cars have ruined Indy..BOGUS Racing...At least let them get HP
Let them get the horsepower the should be getting..

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2013

Factory Stock Showdown Round 2

Big upset!!! Barton cuts a .000 light but spins the tires and loses to Joe Teuton's 9.45 in FS/AC

Semifinals
Patterson vs. Harrison
Connolly vs. Teuton

Patterson and Connolly are solidly in the 9.2s.

FS/DC

Butner vs. B. Skillman
Allegrucci vs. Holbrook

Butner, 8.83
Holbrook 8.85.

If I understand the schedule correctly, they will run one more round of the Factory Stock Showdown today and the four remaining racers will return tomorrow to finish the class in prime time. The FS/AC and FS/DC finalists will race with a handicap.

James,
I understand your point but I'd also have to think that the No. 129 qualifier (actually 33rd guy) had the same gripe back in 1968.

Well it has been another hot day and very busy one! We got beat in Round 2 of class by Slate Cummings. Very close til the end! 10.30-10.32.

Some interesting choices for the barn tomorrow! Scheitlin and Hagberg, who were both 1st round runner-ups! That is all that I have heard about so far.

X2

I remember when Chrysler had the 'pre' Nationals at Milan back in the early 70's(might have been 1970), deciding who would be class winners in advance so no records would not be hit at Indy.

This stuff has being going on for years, part of the game. At least there are some new cars available to race, and a few years from now the kids will inherit these cars. Now if they would just make a few more/other rear wheel drivers that us lower class racers could build.

Thanks for the reporting Kevin (and all you others too), great job.

You're probably right, but were the new cars exempt from receiving HP based on their performance at Indy in 1968? I believe that's what James was referring to in the last part of his message.

I'm sure Mr. Summers wouldn't mind if he could run in a Factory Stock 2 Barrel Showdown this year and save some HP for next year.

Well, this is probably a subject for another day (and most certainly a separate thread) but I think the honest answer to that question is yes. Back in the days before the AHFS and the CIC in Comp, index and horsepower adjustments were completely arbitrary and it's fairly well documented that some combinations (read: manufacturers) seemed to traditionally fare better than others.

Im sure they did, but, the difference being, you couldnt tune the better combos, with a computer, in the staging lanes...hehe
