Thanks to Nitro Joe for all his hard work, he worked his butt off, getting the ladders and getting cars paired up. I hope Michael can do this again! Congrats to Charlie Downing on his win in stock!

Most of the weekend was Mike Bassin, I just took a couple of turns on Sunday. Mike did a great job even though he was feeling a bit under the weather! I'll work with you anytime, Mr. Bassin!:D

Re: LIVE from the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals!

Total entries were 116 (actually 117 before the DQ) in Stock and 86 in S/S. 203 total.

SS/K was the biggest Class with 10 cars. Stock, the biggest class was 6 cars, I believe. F/SA and G/SA were three rounds to win.

I worked at fuel check Friday, almost everyone passed. One car missed by a hair, a few others were close/borderline but passed. It was a new experience working that all day, directing traffic to keep a lane open, helping a few newbies that had never done a fuel check before (I remember my first time).

An awesome weekend for sure. Made a LOT of new friends. Nice to put a face with a name to people I only talk to on here or Facebook. Also saw and talked to friends I hadn't seen since the 50th Indy in 2004.

Lots of FAST runs. Amazing what happens when you don't have to worry about the AHFS. "Go Fast Friday" was just that. Need a new slogan: Go -1.80 or go home. lol

Weather was not too terrible. Breezy and chilly all weekend, a few scattered rain showers Saturday. Not enough to 'lose the track', but just enough we couldn't send cars down the track. Track prep crew did a great job. Just small breaks in the action to drag between sessions, rosin/spray the bald spots, etc. I think most racers didn't mind a few minutes here and there to guarantee a great racing surface.

For those who weren't there, for whatever reason(s), you missed a hell of a show. A race, exclusively for Class Cars, with scales, fuel check, qualifying/ladder, heads-up runs and tech inspection. Put on FOR racers, BY racers. You need to make plans for the next one (if there is one).

I sincerely hope there will be a 2nd Northern Class Nationals in 2015 (or at least not a 13 year gap again).

Re: LIVE from the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals!

Thanks for the compliment Marty! Most multi-day events need someone to give the lead announcer some breaks and I was able to have lunch and get out and stretch my legs a few times. Thanks to Danny Durham, Derrick Beach, Ron Huntley Jr. and Michael Beard, for taking a turn at the mike, all were excellent, thanks guys. Yes I did have a bit of hay fever symptoms, felt ok but sounded bad. Another thought, it was nice to meet Superfan1, Bill and Libby Seabrook from Bridgeport Conn. They are huge fans of all you S/SS racers, they attend several big Nat'l and LODRS events per year, I had them in the tower fri. and sat. They were impressed with event and loved watching the racing from the tower and checking out the Compulink timing system. Though they aren't racers, they are a part of the big S/SS family, we thank them for their support of the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals. Danny Durham and friends made the trip from Tacoma Wash. That's a hike! Thanks for being with us.

Re: LIVE from the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals!

Lots of kudos go out. Although I didn't make it, I did catch a lot of it on MotorManiaTV.com which was really cool. Great job to everyone and I think this goes to show that Stock/Superstock can be a show and a great race by itself. Makes me think that these racers, with the right leadership could put together their own sanctioning body and have a great series. It was also extremely interesting to see how fast these cars could run without worrying about AHFS. Thanks to everyone who worked to pull this off and to the racers who participated and those who shared all the photos.

Re: LIVE from the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals!

On behalf of my Loose Rocker partner Anthony Walton, our families, our staff, and the track staff, I would like to express a hearty thank you to all of the racers, sponsors, and fans who supported this event so passionately! It's been 13 years since the original US Class Nationals, championed by our Grand Marshal Alex Denysenko (who did indeed receive a hat, a badge, and a gun, as requested. And you're darn right it was a useless toy gun, because I knew that if I even got him a squirtgun, he would USE it!) :p We were honored to have you and your family join us. I admit to getting a little emotional when presenting him with his plaque of recognition, and I am again just while typing this. You can file event promotion under "You think you know, but you have no idea." -- It puts an exclamation point on just how extraordinary Alex's accomplishments are.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...07205789_n.jpg

Mike Carr just covered the car counts. Thanks again to the one and only Buff Daddy for his extra helping hand at fuel check on Friday. Keeping the scales and fuel check running quickly and efficiently with over 200 cars without any "filler" classes inbetween Stock and Super Stock is an amazing feat! GREAT job by Jim & Connie Woods, Don Braun, and Mike Carr!

Redman and Bradley on the starting line... need anyone say more? Redman was definitely in the house -- and in his wheelhouse. While it takes time (and enough drums of VHT to surprise the track management!) :D to maintain the best possible conditions, particularly with the impressive number of Stick cars we had competing, it was well worth the time, effort, and expense.

Nitro Joe Jackson went above and beyond all week long, handling early parking from early morning to late at night. If you don't already subscribe to Nitro Joe's Drag Racing Stats, it'd be a nice way to thank him -- plus you would get hoards of invaluable information about the classes and runs made by virtually every Stock and Super Stock car! Check it out at http://www.nitrojoes.com/

Joe worked closely with NTR's Chris Stilwell in the tower all weekend. This dynamic duo crunched out complete ladders for EVERY class in Lucas Oil Class Eliminations on Friday -- just like it should be!

Thanks also to Robert Kinton, Donnie Crowder, Gary Murph, and Stan Carpenter in Tech and Staging, as well as Mike Bassin for lending his knowledgeable voice to the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals. Bryan Epps and the BME Photography crew did a great job as always, and pitched in to organize the Best Appearing/Engineered award presentations and more to free us up to handle other areas of the event. Everyone knew their jobs, and just DID it. Their passion for what we do shines through. Thanks to all of our contributing photographers, videographers, and "LIVE from" reporters, and special thanks also to the NHRA Div. 3 management for their support of the event.

Thanks to Larry Hill for organizing cake & ice cream for Saturday night's Racer Appreciation Party that doubled as a surprise birthday party for Patsy!

Thanks to Dave Turner and Briane Philbrick for bringing me hard-to-find cookies from Canada. I paid Dave in giant Snyder's pretzels. Briane surprised me with his contribution, so I still owe him some unidentified slice of Americana!

There's plenty more thanks to go around... if I missed you and you're reading this: THANK YOU!

Complete results are available on MotorManiaTV's sister site, DragStory, at http://dragstory.com/forum/index.php/board,129.0.html Don't forget that the entire event is archived on www.motormaniatv.com, so if you missed the LIVE broadcast, you can still watch it online any time! Michael just wanted to say thanks for a great time. You and the entire staff went over and above in making this a successful event and I’m glad I was able to be part of it. And being able to meet some of the greatest Stock and Super Stock drivers from around the country was the icing on the cake.
Thanks for all your effort in putting this together. …..Great Job

I hadn't even gotten to that point yet, but since you posted... ;) I missed you before you left. I have something for you! Are you going to Norwalk?

John Dinkel had the Best Losing Package in Round 2 of Eliminations to win the Honda EU200i generator (a $1,149.95 value!) courtesy of Bill Bagley and Bagley Tractor & Equipment of Longview, TX (www.bagleytractor.com, 903-753-8262)
https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...72653847_n.jpg

Craig Marshall won the Best Losing Package in the first round of Stock, collecting $100 from Russell Performance.

The Geezer Award was hotly contested. Dick Butler of Grandpa's Garage and Terry Bell pooled $200 to award to the OLDEST Class Winner. It ain't enough to just be old.. you gotta win Class, too! The very first Class winner on Friday was Marty Buth, who set the bump spot, but wasn't even really in the show at 66. The number slowly climbed... Gene Jordan is still a pup at 69. I can't even remember who it was now, but someone was 71 and said, "Don't even write it down... Gary Russell is two cars behind me and he's got me by 4 months!" Bob Shaw was looking good at 73, but ultimately, Bob Dennis laid claim to the prize at 74. We had a serious bunch of "experienced" racers who still know how to get it done, and you can tell they're having fun doing it!

Dan Jacobs (right) stopped by to thank Ron Matcham, owner of the new Dragway 42, for posting $250 for the #1 Qualifying spot in Super Stock. Jacobs topped the charts with an otherworldly -1.703 under 9.347 from his GT/G '05 Cavalier! Extra points on the cool-o-meter for doing it with a Stick!

Re: LIVE from the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals!

I just wanted to sincerely thank Michael, Anthony and all of the people that helped put this event together. CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WELL DONE!! I know that it took countless hours and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to put it all together and I want you to know that your efforts are greatly appreciated.

My dad and I were hoping to have both of our cars together in time, but the clock ran out on us. Even without the cars, there was no way we were going to miss this, so we came to watch - and man are we glad we did! From how professionally the event was promoted, to how smoothly the show ran (even with all of the cloud-bursts), to how much fun everyone was having, we were thoroughly impressed!

As a second-generation class racer and a "Gen Y" , I truly believe that it will be the power of the Internet and forums like this keeping class racers connected as well as events like the Class Nationals that will ultimately preserve class racing for years to come. So again THANK YOU to Michael, Anthony, and the whole team for stepping out to put this event on and we CANNOT WAIT to be a part of the next one!

Micheal, I feel exactly the same way. After all the work and risk that Loose Rocker took on to make this happen will there be another?

If we are so lucky to see another, how do we lobby NHRA to leave the weekend open.

Thanks so much for this race, I spent way too much time watching the online coverage.

Hey Michael,
It was truly a really fun event. We were proud and excited to be a part of it! Hopefully you will decide you want to do this again! I have a suggestion though! Don't set the date until after NHRA sets all of their division points races (and the East Coast guys, too). Then maybe more people will show up! There was a really great showing by the Division 5 guys, but I was a little disappointed with the lack of support from some of the Division 3 guys! Maybe they just didn't know how much fun it was going to be! Plus there was a really good purse for all the different events!

So here's to the next one!!

What an AMAZING event!! Thanks to Michael and Anthony and all the sponsors and people that made this event a success. The race was as professionally done as any could be. The amount of awards and cash for all the different events, and the trophies, no cheap plastic there, excellent job.
Great meeting everyone and putting a face to some of the names on Class Racer. Also what a well done racer appreciation Bar B Q, for those of you who know me, I know food...take that to the bank! lol Nice to finally meet Larry and Patsy Hill and their son Chris, great folks!
Special thanks to Tony Fillipone and his sons Christian and Tyler for letting me tag along with them to this great race, and way to go Tyler on winning Junior Stock on Friday night, icing on Patsy's birthday cake! lol
Seriously hoping this event continues and gets even larger, as it was announced at the track something like 24 different states and Canada represented this weekend. Hope everyone made it home safely.

Michael and the whole gang did a great job! I hope they do it again. My only request is a little closer to D4. Wow 20 hours is a looooooooong way from home. I've already been asked 100 times you gonna put together a Shootout for next year? I'm still licking my wounds from our very poor performance this past weekend. We just stunk the place up big time. We were embarrassed with our performance to be honest about it. We met a ton of great people and had so much help with all our breakage there. Thanks to everyone who "sponsored" me. It really helped. Sorry you had such a bad weekend Ed. Been there. Isn't it great the way racers help each other out. Kudos to all who pitched in.

Congrats to the LooseRocker Crew, all who helped run the show, and the sponsors-absolutely fantastic! Watched a lot on the web, sure hated to miss out.

+1 on bringing one to Texas.

How are your injuries Ed? It was heartbreaking to know you towed that far and that had such crappy luck!

Re: LIVE from the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals!

Racers represented 24 states plus a boisterous crew from Ontario, Canada. Unsurprisingly, Ohio led with 60 entries, followed by Michigan with 21, and Kentucky with 20. We welcomed racers from Florida, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Nevada, South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesnowta, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire among many other states. The support from Division 5 was particularly impressive. It was great to put some names with faces, and see a lot of unique, quality machines.

White-Welker & Welker Law Firm posted $100 for the Longest Tow Award. Ed Carpenter from Dripping Springs, TX logged over 2550 miles round trip, arriving at the track in one piece, and arriving back home in one piece, and this true Iron Man of the sport survived all of the pieces in the middle. Honorable mention goes to Paul Wong, who slogged through over 2,000 miles one way from Las Vegas, NV, but is flying home. It was great to have both of these "2,000 Mile Club" members in the house, and wish them safe travels!

Wish the choice had not been made for us.

We had planned on making it.

I agree with all the compliments and positive input expressed in the previous posts! Flew in from Minnesnowta to watch (car wouldn't fit in the airplane;) Met a bunch of old and new friends, learned some stuff, and totally enjoyed 3 days of Stock and Superstock drag racing without all the unwanted "FUN" one finds with other events. Hope to have more free time next year so the car can come with!
Thank You to everyone involved (racers included) for a great time!

Maybe y'all can help me out with something. I had someone message me, "Great job, with the weather you had to work with." A couple people in the lanes on Sunday commented, "The weather probably kept some people home."

As I looked up into the sky, my question was and is, "What weather?"

The weather did almost exactly what it's done for the last 10 years (actually better than several years), which I charted for everyone over a year ago. We told you what to expect, and that's what it did. While we were down for a couple of sprinkles for a few minutes here and there, it was literally from a couple of singular passing clouds -- historically, that's pretty standard. The weather history reports from this weekend show 0.00 from Thursday through Sunday -- nothing measurable! It was cool and windy. It would've been a little nicer if it wasn't so windy, but seriously, overall it was great racing weather. If you could GUARANTEE the weather that we had Thurs-Sun, I would take it every single time! Now if you're looking for a barometer, that you're probably not going to find... :p

Mike Beard...HOPEFULLY you now have closed the door on the 1st Northern Class
Nationals...and can move on with the rest of the stuff you have planned for the 2014
season...(the other events you get involved in...PLUS racing your car!)

I agree with Bill Lamb...that the success of future Class Nationals hinges with trying
to find a "clean" weekend....NO competing events from the major sanctioning bodies
(or independents as well!)

That might be a tough thing to do...BUT it's way too EARLY to speculate....on when or
where...the next edition of the Class Nationals should be....

Again...Mucho Kudos for the fine job...hope you find the time for a breather...

A big thanks to Bill Bagley for the generator donation. I didn't know losing could end up such big winner.

We tried like hell to get the Duster down there. Twice in fact. But was not meant to be. We did come down Friday to watch class and hang out with Terry and Barbara and had a good time. As far as the weather comments go. It was a little chilly and windy but we would much rather have that than 90 degrees and 90% humidity any day. To Michael and all who were involved thank you for a great show and if there is another one we will be there if I have to push the Duster down the freeway myself! Holgar & Kathy

To Mike, all his staff, and all the participants, it was a great event.
Weather? A bit cool? Some clouds? Minor sprinkle or two? No Rain. And then Sunshine!
Didn't get a chance to visit and catch up with as many as I had hoped, enjoyed tremedously those I could. Here is a view of Ed's team the home viewers might have missed. Sure there were others that thrashed as well. Cool to see all the Pure Stock cars. Should we have had a heads up run with the two Impalas? G/PS? vs R/SA? (A friend of mine had Impala listed for sale before 9/11. The next day a guy from the west coast saw the ad, called her, went to the bank, got cash, and bought it to drive home. Said it brought a tear to her eye when I emailed her the pictures of them.) Hope Mike does it again next year!

[QUOTE=Michael Beard;430373]I hadn't even gotten to that point yet, but since you posted... ;) I missed you before you left. I have something for you! Are you going to Norwalk?

John Dinkel had the Best Losing Package in Round 2 of Eliminations to win the Honda EU2000i generator (a $1,149.95 value!) courtesy of Bill Bagley and Bagley Tractor & Equipment of Longview, TX (www.bagleytractor.com, 903-753-8262)

Craig Marshall won the Best Losing Package in the first round of Stock, collecting $100 from Russell Performance.

Michael - What a fantastic weekend! Dittos to what so many others have expressed in terms of appreciation, enjoyment and awe!

We took advantage of the opportunity to get a head start after a second round boot, got home yesterday afternoon (1,980 mile round trip), and spent the whole evening unpacking and cleaning. Just now (lunch time at work) able to catch up on Sunday's results.

It was truly a pleasure to be a sponsor of this event and even more so, the privilege to spend a weekend with so many quality folks and their race cars. Thanks again to all of the promoters, organizers and race track staff. I hope you exceeded your expectations in every measurable category. Mine as a participant certainly were.

Michael, The weather across much of the eastern two thirds of the USA for the week prior to the race, and the media / internet hype that followed produced the overblown perception (= realty) that the weather is terrible everywhere ie Ohio too. The well publicized flooding of National Trail Raceway in the past was probably a contributing factor. The weather this entire winter has most likely sensitized most people to some degree...my family included. My wife slipped on the abnormally pervasive and abundant ice 8 weeks ago and broke her hip. Three big screws (hardware) and 8 weeks later and she is golf carting around at the Auto Meter Class Nationals. We were not going to let a little boo boo mess up our plans!
Thanks again to The Loose Rocker Team and everyone who took part in this event.
