Hopefully he will come through with some documentation to put this thing to rest. If you want me to I will ask him if it is ok if I give you his ph number so you can call him I will.

That can not be dismissed. There has got to be some connection...maybe just the doors are from one of Castaldo's Darts? Maybe Charlie had a third Dart? I dunno.

As far as "two scoop Lido" is concerned, from the best of my knowledge in order to be a participant at a Bracket Finals race you had to finish in the Top 10 at your track. If that is true, then the "two scoop Lido" Dart had to be a regular competitor at some track in order to gain enough points to finish in the Top 10 to represent his track at the Bracket Finals and not just show up for that one (big) race (and receive a participant decal) because he felt like racing there that day.

M68

I just can't find the connection to Castaldo. Believe me, I've tried, MANY different avenues, including speaking with Castaldo's crew members on several occassions. End result---There was no third Dart that he was campaigning, or, there was no back up car. NONE!!!
As far as the doors go, the stick car doors were damaged way past being able to be repaired after Charlie put that car on it's roof @ E town in 69. They were scrapped with the rest of the car after it was stripped of usable parts. The auto car has it's original doors on it today.
There is NO ONE that wants to fiqure out this connection to Castaldo more than me, but I just can't connect the dots.

I have followed almost every possible lead, speaking with dozens of people about my car, but so far I'm not any closer than I was 3 years ago when I started this thread. If nothing else, I've been able to fiqure out which cars it's NOT now, &, the list of possibilities is getting smaller. I'm not giving up........... I think it's going to be one of those; being in the right place @ the right time scenarios where someone will bring up a statement about a car their buddy knew about, or someone who had an uncle............... etc, etc, etc.

Yes it has, probably around 10 years ago. At the time of this picture, it was owned by Steve Atwell. I believe he sold it to Todd Werner in 07 or 08. Not sure where it is today.

Hard to believe I've followed this thread for 3 years and no answer to the original question.
Have you ever gotten the race programs that match your car? I remember reading about bracket finals sticker? you had on it from 77 I think.

This is the decal that was on my car when Lou Vignona owned it in the early 80's

http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...acingdecal.jpg

This is the program that was available for that race held @ York US 30. I have only a picture of that program. I haven't been able to find an actual one yet. I think locating one of these would be key, as the drivers are probably listed in it. I keep my eye out for one, but so far no luck. If anyone has one or sees one advertised somewhere, PLEASE let me know. I'd even be happy with a copy of it.

Like M68 said, you probably had to qualify to be able to race @ this meet. You couldn't just show up, so my car must of frequented some local tracks on a consistant basis to be able to race at this one. For some reason, it's been overlooked & nobody took notice of it???? Maybe, because it wasn't a SS class car @ the time??? It always had the hemi in it, because Lou purchased the car turn key. He pulled the drivetrain, kept the motor for himself, & the trans landed in the trunk. And that's how Tim Hennessey purchased it.
Funny thing, I ran the numbers on the trans a while back, & it decodes to a 1968 SS Hemi only trans. Quite possbly the original trans that my car was born with in 68. Can't say for sure, because none of these cars had the drivetrains serial numbered to the car

On the Mystery Hemi Dart

Everything points in the direction of a Northeast LO23.

But something here is still 'baffling', as I can't locate the Original LO23
that went to Mansfield, Ohio.

Going to have to add that offer of a ride to the top of my bucket list.

My son was awarded a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship to LSU (very proud dad here) is having his "move in day" on the 22nd. No way I can "not" be there.

My butt and the passenger seat of your Dart will meet one day.
Bring ear muffs to protect your ears. :D

Truly appreciative of the offer Daryl. I intend to live long enough to take you up on that "beer run".

I try to make it south of the 49th paralell at least once a year, so your reservation in the giggle seat will remain in good standing. Maybe Carisle in 2014??. Beer stores there are non existant tho, so I may have to import some of that Canadian beer that you Americans seem to enjoy so much.

I always bring Canadian beer Jimi. That American stuff is like drinking weak tea. We're only allowed to bring a 24 across the border tho, so I reserve it to be consumed with good company, rather than my own personal use. I'd look forward to some of that good company.
You thinking of coming to the Hemi Reunion @ Tri State?

I would like to it just depends on my kids foot ball schedule and how many unfinished jobs I have in the shop. I feel guilty leaving to go racing when I could be making money.

I am watching a video on Youtube "1968 NHRA-Part1-1960s Vintage Drag Racing-Indy" Some LO23s on it including Landy, but also a red Dart with "Good Guys" on the doors "Jan Cen" on the front fenders and a series of white hats on the rear quarters. Has this car been discussed/accounted for?

yankee peddler car, gary purdew and dave ray were the 3rd owners. they got it from a guy in cleveland, ohio and gary drove it until 79/80 i believe. gary told me he sold the car with 2 motors for around $8000 and thought he made out like a bandit, lol. i see him about once a year now as he's having some health issues and lives several hours away. i believe todd warner has the car now and it has been returned to its peddler paint and it was beautiful when i saw it at the 08 hemi reunion.
