Was it raced by Tom only in 1968.

Re: Original hemi dart information

Maybe I missed this in the other 66 pages of info on this thread, but can someone answer a few questions regarding the 68 Dart Hemi's below.

1. What size rear wheel and tire combo was run on the 68 Darts. (What backspacing, rim siz, treadwidths, section widths etc...)

2. Were the shackles, perches and front lead spring mounts moved to accommodate the larger rear tires. If so where were they moved to.

3. Were the inner wheel wells also modified from the stock configuration to accommodate the larger rear tires and rims?

4. What size front tires and rims were used and with what backspacing back in the day?

5. Who (business) currently restores the Darts, that can help answer questions? I'm looking at buying and cloning a 68 Dart, but minus the Hemi engine of course. I just want the body to be cloned (rear quarters cut and stance/ride height)

Thanks
Manny

Paul, when did Dick Panter run the white Dart? I always remember him driving one of the yellow & brown "Old Trapper" team cars from Alberta. The "Old Trapper" lettering on the doors was painted to look like wooden logs.

Re: Original hemi dart information

Rory,

Not sure,,,,,,,,,but his nephew has a bunch of photo's.
And it was classed in SS/BA, so it had to be before 1970.
Before the Street/Hemi Cuda 'Old Trapper'.

Diego,,

#BO29,,,299126 would be the #13 car, I'm pretty sure on that.
A 4-speed transmission.
Shipped to; Wilkes Motor Sales, Zainesville, Ohio.

#BO29,,,299127 would be the #14 car.
An automatic transmission.
Shipped to; Myl's Chrysler-Plymouth, Coroapolis, Pennsylvania

#BO29,,,299128 would be the #15 car.
A 4-speed transmission.
Shipped to; Harold Dutton,,,,, Morrow, Georgia

If the #'s are correct, and the first run build date (February 18, 1968), and 50 were built.
Than the #'s should run from #BO29,,,299114,,,, thru,,,,,#BO29,,,299163.
This obviously from the first run production.

Diego,,

A guy by the name of Bill VanWey, out of Dayton, Ohio bought a Cuda.

He picked it up at;

Off the second run production 5/18/68,
He only had it a short time.
He sold it to Billy Stepp. It was a 4-speed.
Billy Stepp also had his own original, and he ran it with Dick Humbert.

The other car you are asking about was out of the Mountain West.
It went to Idaho.
#BO29M8B390676
An automatic transmission.

Re: Original hemi dart information

In the original hemi darts did they have offset shackles or ones that were inline with the with the rear framerails? Apparently there were not allowed to even mini tub the cars in superstock. If that is the case, what size wheels & tires (30x10?) did they run back in those days? What sizse torsion bars did the Dart and Barracuda Hemis run then and what do they run now?

Re: Original hemi dart information

Many guys swapped off the front 14" rims, and went with 15" x 3" Cragars or Keystones,
with Good Year 6.70" x 15" skinnies.

Slicks 10.5" wide, on mag wheels 15 ' x 8" with no off-set.

The component list, you can get from the 1968 Authenticity Book.

There is some debate on the torsion bar sizes, but all 1968 Hemi A-Body cars were
utilizing 383 cars with torque boxes, and .890 sized torsion bars.
