THE LEGEND! Way to go Chip! Congrats also to Chris Hall from Utah for winning the Summit No-Box World Championship and making the loooong ride worth it!
So far so good in the Ross Family Racing Avenger: .023 and .011 on the tree, but have to run Jeff Ross himself in the morning! Great car, having fun! |

Re: Live @ VMP, IHRA
They actually would allow you to withdraw and get your money back on Sunday morning if you couldn't stay...I agree on the bracket race. Let the locals come back next weekend and have their bracket race.

Re: Live @ VMP, IHRA
I heard there were like 6 cars in No-Box and 11 in Box in the ET classes. I'm pretty sure that those weren't the cars that held up the schedule.
Friday started out slowly with multiple downtimes for breakage and oildowns, then it rained Friday afternoon. We only got through 1 qualifying round for everyone. Saturday continued with more breakage (myself included) and numerous oildowns. Sunday ran much smoother, but there was still some downtime here and there, and the night was cut short by another oildown. They should be able to finish everything very easily and very quickly today - probably about 4 hours. So less than half a day Monday, ran less than half a day Friday --- so a total of 3 days on track to run the Tournament of Champions, the All Stars race, and a National Event. Took 'em almost 5 days to run the NHRA Div. 1 race at Atco, so take your pick. Neither event went as planned, and both sanctions did their best. I'd like to thank Jeff and Zac Ross for letting me drive the Jeff's Auto Body Avenger in the Tournament of Champions and the Summit All Stars race. I bought the Volare from them back in 2005. They definitely have some great cars! I made it to the semis in the TOC (will wear the #3 next year), falling to eventual World Champion Richard Alford, who defeated Brian Rowe in the finals. Lisa Bolton was the other semifinalist, in her NAPA H/CM Dart Sport. Alford, a many-time track champ in bracket racing and former Bracket Finals champ was driving "The Total Look" E/CM Camaro for the Pearsall family, and Brian Rowe, this year's IHRA Div. 9 Champ, who otherwise needs no introduction to the ClassRacer audience, was driving Richie Decola's Southern Crane E/FIA Camaro. In the TOC for Super Stock, Mike Volkman trailered Scotty Richardson with his GT/GA Sebring with a dominating .012 and dead-on 0 against Scotty's close .016 and dead-on 6. Surprisingly, it was just the second career win for Volkman; his first coming earlier this summer at the Union County Pro-Am, but consistent performances have finally yielded the deserved results. Bryan Worner and Clay Bullard were the semifinalists. In the Summit All Stars race, I staged up the Ross Family Racing A/FCM Avenger against the Top Notch Auto A/CM Corvette of defending event champ and former NHRA World Champion Terry Taylor. I had a tiny .016 to .023 advantage on the tree, and Taylor got the stripe by .004 to break out by .006, while the Avenger ran a dead-on 10.905. Division 2 Super Stock Champ Clay Bullard wheeled his BTS Tire & Wheel SS/Production Camaro to the All Stars win over Moser Engineering's Larry Cummings on the strength of a significant holeshot. |
Re: Live @ VMP, IHRA
I apologize my updates went away yesterday.....I have to take orders from customers on Sunday, so with three races being run (myself in two of them, my Alex in all three) in addition to having to "work for a living" at the track, I had a long, extremely stressful and busy day.
It's gorgeous and sunny and breezy today, they are starting with the two Superstock pair that had to run last night before Mike's unfortunate situation occurred. Mike's misfortune makes a bye run for Alex next round, so knowing that we decided we had no choice but to stick around for today, otherwise we might have pulled out early today. Awards ceremony was nice, well attended though some big names were MIA (Mike Beard for instance.....but he has a recovering wife at home, so he is excused). Nick Folk won the Div. 5 performance award and he was not there either even though I believe he was on the property. Awards started at 10:30, but by the time everything was handed out, pictures taken, etc., I believe it was 12:30 when we got back to the motorhome. I was whipped! I don't take pictures during eliminations - superstitious about that - so no more photos from me. The last time I video taped an eliminations run Alex scattered a motor, the camera stays in the motorhome now. I will report more later as there is time. |
