When you ran on the National records the oldsmobiles of racing head service from Memphis were really hard to beat. If I'm not mistaken they had the first of the cheater stocker cams and bowl cutters for their heads, one was named the mouse and the other the rat. If you wanted to go fast they used the mouse and if you wanted to go real fast they used the rat. This was back in the mid to late 60's.

Wagom Killer,
I have no idea whether any film footage of that race exists, but a good person to ask would be George, himself, or perhaps Ed Miller, who won Super Stock, I think. That was the race in which the Hurst Corporation put up a bunch of EXTRA money (like $10,000.00???) for the win in Super Stock, to encourage participation in that Eliminator.) It was a well-attended race, so likely, somebody's got it on film... I just don't know who. Sorry I can't be of more help... Bill |

There were hundreds out there, but the one thing I remember most was NHRA bragging at the 1969 Nationals that they could run 9 junior stockers a minute.

George Cureton was definitely one of the major east coast cars. I believe John Dianna brought his 56 Panel all the way from California and beat George in class at a National event in the early 60s. Thats when Men were men in class . They towed wherever it took to show their stuff....was fastest...Dont forget Jere Stahl either.....He helped alot of cars improve with his parts and knowledge....
