Re: Horsepowers
I'm not a mathametician, but 150lbs+ on another car with the same engine usually isn't an advantage...

Mr. Storms, As a 12 year old, I watched my Dad (Brown Sugar) lose to Harvey Emmons heads up in Brainerd at the NHRA National Finals at BIR in 1987. Dad was on a roll that day, but we knew he hit the buzz saw when Harvey won the semi's. I think we lost by less than a tenth in the final... He could have used a few less factored HP that day... |
Re: Horsepowers
I am the one James is referring to, I have been campaigning my 73 'Cuda for 35 years in stock eliminator. Every time someone causes it to be hit with HP it only makes the value of the car and the combination go down. I do not plan on racing stock in 2016, so Mr. Storms can either continue driving this combo into extinction or he can spend the next few years trying to lower the HP. He will most likely be the only stocker left in the country with this combo so all of his runs will be the class average. It will be interesting to see if he understands now the HP factoring works or will he blindly keep going fast to appease some other short comings he is trying to overcome. I will look into super stock as an option but being retired my financial resources are limited. I am truly sad that 'Cuda's are rarely seen at races anymore and I always have fans tell be how much they like seeing my car.

Re: Horsepowers
Dale. I get where your coming from believe me, when spend a certain amount of dollars on what I do to my car, I'm not going to sit back every year and hang low. Sometimes it's nice to see how hard work and determination pays off.
Sometimes you have to let them fly and that's the bottom line, I'm not the only one who ran over 85 under here!! No disrespect to you at all, your son think may think different and that's his opinion, and frankly I'm tired of playing the game of being safe. |

Re: Horsepowers
In all due respects, Jim is a good guy & a hard worker, had the pleasure of meeting him at Indy several years ago. When running a combo (that has only a few cars in the country running that combo) in such a competitive class (G/SA) it is sometimes very difficult to protect your combo in a performance based class, especially if you are running for class honors. In doing so, when there is no one else to help lower your average, & you don't go to that many races. Not trying to take anything away from Jim or make excuses, but here are the numbers for him from Indy. I am sure he did not come all this way to sandbag. He & his combo are up against pretty tough odds. I would think this combo is a little over factored or there would be much more of them out there.
