I agree Billy......I tried to get NHRA to do that 150# on the seat spring deal back in around 1986. It fell on deaf ears ! Now look at what we have. Expensive cams, expensive lifters, and solid lifters where hydraulics should be. The higher RPM's call for more expensive everything else. Like I said before. NHRA STOCK Elim. DIED back in 1985 ! Its a Jr. Super Stock today.

Just curious......how many combos would a return to pressed in rocker studs affect, and when was that exception allowed?

I'm not 100% sure when it was allowed to use the screw in studs with the jam nut that required milling the stud boss down but they allowed pinning the studs back in around 1961 and 1962 on the Chevy 409 SS/S cars. Then they started to use the screw in studs that were threaded without the jam nut later. Hell that was 58 years ago. I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast this morning now....

As someone who has rebuilt and driven quite a few Turboglides and Buick Flightpitches in their day I have a hard time calling them a 3 speed. I guess you could call a Dynaflow a 4 speed if you use the same analysis, a twin turbine converter in front of a 2 speed transmission. I don't blame you Jack but I have my doubts about the guy that approved it.

If memory serves me right ,the turboglides were only available in panel wagons ..ie bell telephones panel wagons ,work related,..ect.....were accepted later in station wagons by NHRA....could be wrong .......most people weren't even born 60 years ago ,so who can tell.

Turboglides were available in regular production cars I believe. Saw a few but not very many. I am plenty old enough to remember those cars from my UTE ....lol

I will admit, for the uninitiated , this does sound like brain surgery (I would guess), but the TG did in fact use 3 drive turbines. No detectable shift , but still within the paradigm of a 3 speed transmission...in my opinion.

My parents had a 57 Belair with a Turboglide from the factory. After it failed the second time my Dad had the dealer replace it with Turboglide.
