Re: Billet cams and lifter supply
Bubski As for the most enhanced combo on record the L78
If you think that the L 78 is the most gifted engine combo you need to go back to looking in the guide. There are a lot of combo's that are far better off than this one. Years ago I watched someone pull an aluminum driveshaft out of a 67 Mustang. Said it was listed as an option on the car. Who was building aluminum driveshafts back then? But if you think it's that easy with the L78 combo come on in the water is fine. You won't need acid for the heads. I'm sure with all your knowledge you would move to the front of the line. What happens if the tire manufactures decide to stop making 9 inch slicks. They did away with the 7's years ago. And let's face it not many measure 9 anyway. Are you guys going to say nope sorry you should have seen this coming. And had extra sets. BP |

If they were made legal I wouldn't use them until I hurt my motor so I felt I had no choice. But we have racers that have raced a long time sitting on the sidelines waiting for lifters that may not ever be available. NHRA has a list of superseded parts because of the (Availability). If you can't get a lifter that will last in your combo I believe this is as good as any case that they have allowed other parts in. |

Re: Billet cams and lifter supply
I know Schubecks have garnered a lot of flack over the years and I've seen the damage they can do when they come apart but I've run the same set for 12 seasons and they don't look any different from the day I installed them. I do run more spring pressure than I probably have to trying to make sure they stay in contact with the cam and the cam is starting to show some signs of wear but very little.
I can't believe in this day and age someone can't come out with an "improved" ceramic lifter, especially now that we can run solids and don't need room in the body for the hydraulic plunger. I doubt any manufacturer out there is going to make roller cams and lifters for my combo so I'll be stuck with a flat tappet setup regardless. Jim Mantle V/SA 6632 |

All of the transmissions and some of the converters are from my LT1 F-Body days. The rear end is the one that came in the cars. A twelve bolt would be faster. I would prefer a torque arm. I actually proposed that to GM in 2010. The accepted replacement for the independent rear in all new cars seems to be the four link. I really don't see it as being any better than anything else in stock. |

Re: Billet cams and lifter supply
The FSS cars run the 3060R 9” MT radials. They are the same tire stockers run. I run the Goodyear radial that few showdown cars run. Also a 9” tire. The showdown cars run wider rims that make the tires look bigger.
QUOTE=J.R. Haddad;670439]Gump, you are my hero when it comes to common sense. I think that could be a tough argument given that the Showdown Cars runs as quick as 7.60's. Now, their 9" tires are wider than our 9" tires, so I could see this heading to a NHRA ruling that all F/S cars and A thru E regular cars get to use the wider 9" tires, and all others use the regular 9" tires. Before I get attacked, this is just my guess on what could happen, not what I want. JR[/QUOTE] |
