We just got back in to the nice cool air conditioning. We went over and had barbq ribs and chickens at the Skillmans tonight. Very nice! Thanks to Bill and Stacey and Ray and Drew. I took some pictures that I will post tomorrow. Right now I just want to get cool!

We also went to the presentation for the A/S and A/SA Challenge winners. Congratulations to Caleb McFarland and David Barton for jobs well done! I have pics of that, too, that I will post tomorrow!

The ladder still was not up when we came home, but I was able to find out on DRC that after Corda and Downing were tossed, we ended up with Bo Butner first round. All I can hope is 3rd time is charm as he has beaten us twice already this year, the most recent being last weekend at Bowling Green in the third round.

Well we have an early morning tomorrow, so it is bedtime for me!

Thanks for the info, I guess that begs one more question: does the barn fill up first, or do selected cars go there, those maybe getting more scrutiny? Does thE barn indicate a more extensive teardown, i.e., cherry picker available etc

Do they still pull some pans?

I had to run to town and when I was gone my wife thinks she heard that a car went over the wall. Anybody know?

Maybe this?

CLERMONT, Ind. -- Darin Bay's jet dragster lost control and went over the guard rail on the top end of the race track during an exhibition run to conclude the day's action from the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil. Bay, from Vancouver, WA., was alert and conscious after being extracted from the vehicle and was transported to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in downtown Indianapolis for further observation.

Rob, a jet car crashed. They were working on getting the driver out is the last thing I read.

Drag Race Central said Bert Morgan was a "no-show" for first round of the auto class combo. Does anyone know what happened to Bert?

By the way thanks for all the reports, news and vids, takes some of the pain away from withdrawing

Randall....I was torn down in 2008......was told as I pulled up to go to the tent...at that race...tent was for head only and barn was for rod and piston/crank.....yes they seal you the day before...... make you initial next to your car number on their sheet that you agree to be there the following day ....... there was a morning session and an afternoon session.

Well it is another sunny day here at Indy. Going to cool down today to 95 from 99 yesterday. It was still 85 here at 11 last night!

I am wearing my Mardi Gras beads that I got over at Teuton's for a little luck against Bo this morning! They have already called up the left side of the ladder.

More after we run.

Oh here are a couple of shots from last night at the Skillmans:

This is such a cruel sport, all the people I was pulling for, except Wenzel, are gone 1st rd. I was really pulling for our track reporters and Andy Durham.

I was listening to the audiocast this morning and Randy Wilkes had a single. Was there not enough alternates in the staging lanes to give him someone to race against? Last year, as I recall an number of alternates made first round. Has the rule changed regarding this?

Terry, it's a 71 454-425 factored at 420. I think his car is going to be pretty decent when he gets it worked out.

My dad was in the lanes and he was an alternate so that must not have been the case they sent us back just letting ya know

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011

Mike,

My brother was the second alternate and made it in. He told me that all of the alternates got in except for 1. He also said that someone broke and potentially another alternate could have gotten in. Maybe somone else who was at Indy has more details on this.

Mahlosky breaks just before the waterbox, so there is no alternate. Wilkes gets the free pass to round two.

Marty Buth 09-03-2011 10:46 AM

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011

Mike,

According to my brother, it was before the waterbox and some people were saying there should have been an alternate. One guy told me that the car broke before it crossed the return road right at the front of the staging area. I am getting this all second hand, so we really need to know from someone who was there.

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011

I`m not positive, but I would think that once a pair of cars was selected, and the info put into the computer, wouldn`t that be too late for inserting an alternate?

When you think of all the years and support to the speed parts and drag race related industries Jim and many others have spent, having to face blatant under factored cars heads up has got to make you wonder if its all worth it....
Going ''a la Fletcher'' may be one way to handle it but it is certainly not ideal....

random observation... used to be each car in teardown was allowed ONE crewmember and NO-ONE else was allowed (including me) ...

now ford has sent dealer staff and engineers to dissasemble and tech the cars. im not sure about mopar.

i would like to see the drivers dissasemble and reassemble these cars, just wondering how many could even drive out of the barn ??

jack

p.s. barn at times looked like a new car dealership shop...almost all new cars, many mechanics, and many drivers just watching them work on thier cars.

Does the Ford service Tear down come with the package when you buy the car or doe's it cost more??? What happens if you are out in Idaho and you set the record? Will they fly a team out there? You all know that they sold the FORD Airline during troubled times oh I forgot that Edsel Ford II owns a charter service that he bought from Chryler!

Jack, if this were the case, the field would be 32 cars.
