The white Mac Camaro was not a ZL1. Al sold one ZL1 and it was Cortez Silver. The motor in the Speedway museum is indeed a real ZL1 motor but not to the white Camaro. I do believe the ZL1 that motor belongs to is in Omaha. As far as the Mac Camaro or RD Shaker, it's in New Jersey.

I just discovered this thread. I think I can help with some id's.
The guy on the right with the striped shirt is the car owner and my friend, Wendell Simpco. Wendell ran a small speed shop in Sioux Falls, Performance Parts.
The owner of the drivetrain and driver is on the fender nearest the front, Larry Kunnert.
The blond in front of Wendell is Don Monrad and the guy between them towards the rear is Keith Mileage who's SS/DA belvedere is pictured also on this thread.

Wendell Simpco...now that's a name from my high school days! Fond memories of that little speed shop!

On September 13th come on out to I 29 dragway the Nostalgia races will be held, formerly know as the geezers race. The TENSION will be on display and there is a good chance the Don will get behind the wheel and make a pass down the track

Just curious... Were the ladder bars still filled with "lead"? They used to be....also front fenders were really "thin"...funny how that acid works..lol. Also, I had a Miles trailer..,they were nice. I bought mine new through Mike Daughety..Performance Sales.

The only Anglia i recall is the one Mike Daughety flipped. I think it was green with sbc, 4. Speed. C gas. Now that I think about it...he might have crashed at Flightland...he put wheel spacers on the Anglia so he could put on Crager SS wheels and the spacer broke... It was a 301 sbc.

{Pretty sure the Daughtery Anglia crashed at Cornhusker Raceway. I was there that day. It ended up on the left side (north side) about half way down the track as I recall. Yes, broken wheel spacer...pretty sure they were illegal by NHRA rule. One of the few crashes at Cornhusker. (maybe was at Omaha Dragway ??),,, But yes it was a broken rear wheel spacer that caused the wreck.

Fun at Cornhusker:
Saw Wild Willie Borsch at Cornhusker doing exhibition runs with another blown fuel altered.... driving one handed, with the other hand on the side of the altered's door area as he blasted down the track at 150 mph+

The lime green car was from South Omaha....Pollish (Poland ancestors) great guys and could really drink beer. I believe they called the car "Concoction" It has been long enough ago, we can probably tell stories,..lol. That car had an Olds rear end...with a "Pollosh Locker" (ya need a welder to make one) I also think they were the first ones around Omaha to use canted - angle plug heads...really helped them....also, the car was noted to shake or wobble the front wheels after the burn out.....lol. I've got lots of stories if ya want more...lol

The Polack you're referring to is Duane "Smiley" Jazynka. He's still building engines for lots of local guys in Omaha and still racing occasionally with his former G/G '62 Vette. Runs it just like he did in the 70s, with a Nash 5-speed...he told me, "the rev limiter is the carburetor."
10 grand and dump the clutch! The only major difference is he now runs a 355 instead of a 287 incher. Fun guy with unlimited stories! Here's a shot of Duane at I29 Dragway a year or two ago:

There was a Hann Bros. car as I recall. And Bob Hann rings a bell, but not certain.

There was also a small block (327) powered, black Anglia run at the old Omaha Dragway. Owned by Jay Wolf...driven by Gordon Smiley (the same guy killed at Indy 500 practice a few years later)

No idea if it's the same car. (any black paint under the paint layers on the car?)

That must be the Hahn Bros car. It was bronze like that as I recall. The other post I just saw shows it's the Hahn Car. Pretty sure it was a small block.
Very cool some one found it, and is puting it back together. Wish I could find my old Jr stock 56 Chevy we raced at Omaha Dragway.

Yes I worked with Bill Vice at Charley's in the late 60's...early 70's. Was known as "Stoney" then. Spent a few after work hours with him inside a bar or two.

I remember when his first boy was born.....man do I fell old

There was also a guy named Tom Tintsman (sp) that was at Charley's too. Small framed guy. And Rose and the kids of course.

Do you know what VIN was on that 396? Was it from a Camaro or from that Corvette?

I was also told that they had a hard time selling #22 as a ZL-1 and swapped in a 396. But where did that 396 come from?

I also may have the original cowl air cleaner for #22, muncie and POP book that Al gave me in 2004. I will have to lookup your VIN number on the list.

I also may have a Photo of that car on Al's lot from 1969.

We raced Gary Hansen in 69 when the Roadrunner was still a street car with my friends 66 L79
Chevy II. We raced north of Dodge st on the interstate from Maple st south.
