The guy(s) who purchased Daryl's Dart had to have a previous racing record to qualify them.

Chuck was actually from the Rochester area - not NYC. Chuck did just that - walked into a dealer and bought a S/S Hemi Dart that they had sitting there. I am not sure if the dealer ordered it for another customer and they bailed out or if they just ordered it thinking they could sell it - I do know of a few other Darts that were ordered by the dealer not by a customer - some of these cars sat a while - contrary to popular belief, you could go to the dealer and order one - if your dealer knew about them - most dealers were not performance oriented. You could also buy one from Mr Norms, as they even advertised the cars in Drag News.

I stand corrected. Yes, I've seen Mr. Norm's (really cool) ads in Drag News. Now, where's that time machine? :)

If ya can't get (or afford) a Hemi Dart, this is the next best thing.

Ads from that golden drag racing and supercar era were the coolest ever. But you already know that. :)

Not only on this car. "Back in the day", custom wheels with offsets to the inside were not common (Cragar Super Tricks were the main ones, and expensive for grassroots racers.). With the Super Stock cars of the late '60s came the use of wide tires which meant wide wheels. Most of the wide wheels were aluminum cast with about a 4" inset for suspension and body clearance on stock suspensions. You could turn a 10" aluminum slot wheel around, machine a flat surface to mount against a brake drum and have a 5"-5 1/2" back spacing. We did that on an SS Chevelle in 1972.

Not much of a selection on back spacing magnesium back in the day. Valve stem on the inside of the wheel. Car still has a weird tire gauge that Ron made to check tire pressure.

So, where are we now in the ever evolving case of "Daryl's Dart " ? With a dent as a fingerprint are we getting near an answer in "missing years" of it's life?

Maybe if we add more drama we can turn this into a reality show. Raise a few bucks for Liteweight's frustration.

liteweight is good for raising a few bucks, no matter what the reason, as he always seems to be short of them.

As far as the Dented Dart scenario,, I've made alot of calls & emails to different people searching for it's owner, but, so far, no luck. I have a real good contact in New York that knows alot of the people who were involved with drag racing, local speed shops & the underworld New York street racing scene back then. Very cool dude that is very willing to help out. Just gotta wait it out till he comes up with the right name. He is constantly giving me updates on his ongoings.

Stay tuned. At least I now have a direction to go.

Daryl have you tried calling Bob LaRengina at valley chassi 845-471-1421 he has been around since the day after dirt!!!! he may have some valuable info. also try Romeo's Engines 845-878-4889. supposedly they had a hemi dart (possibly a clone)that used parts from Charlie castaldo's wrecked car.

Some of the early pictures have already dropped off.

I went back to page "1" to see how the early pics were doing.

After 15 pages of re-reading posts I realized this is an addiction.

If you get that info (shipping information) from Hurst I would be interested in trading you for some of factory paperwork that I have collected (over 200 pages). There were a few dealerships that recived two cars (I have some info showing where the first 50 cars went - no VIN #'s though) Bob Banning got two as mentioned, Lennox dodge in Atlanta also got (2) (Bill Tanner's and Ray Dailey's), In the first 50 it shows 13 cars being sent to Grand Spaulding. It is funny because Norm says he got all the cars at one time but I KNOW this to be not true but almost everyone I have talked to who bought their Dart at Norm's said they were told that their car was the last one and they were not getting any more! Good sales pitch huh? There were an additional 30+ Darts built. Paul, I don't want to seem overanxious but I would really love to see the Pomona Speed Dart. The Manhatten Speed dart that was mentioned before may have been a Dart out of PA. Two guys bought it never ran it and sold it to someone in NY - the guy paid with a check and well, it bounced! They went back up to NY to Repo the car - the guy had raced it and had broke the engine by this time. The Manhatten Speed Dart doesn't look like it had been painted yet and the lettering was temporary - I haven't checked on it but it is a good possibility as that car seemed like it was around for a short period of time and then disapeared.
Mark J

Way back when.....post 110.

The Manhatten Speed Dart mentioned as lost. A few other comments about it early on in the same area.

Maybe now ??????

Re: Original hemi dart information

I have been able to verify the Dart out of PA was not the Manhattan Dart - This Dart is alive and well - I have the complete history on it.

I appreciate the effort beekool. There's gotta be more pics out there. I've contacted a few people who have collections of pics from NY National, but so far nothing. Currently I'm trying to attach a name to that silver Dart. So far only one guy remembers it, Brian Higgans from S&K Speed Shop.

for your Hemi Dart fix of the day. A very competitive state of the art car back in the 80's/ early 90's. Original LO23 Dart once owned by a fellow Canadian, currently ( last I knew) owned by John Friel

Daily Hemi Dart fix.

In case you just got off the bus from another planet, our hero and originator of this entire Hemi Dart topic has been down the research road before.

The backstory:

http://www.carcraft.com/featuredvehi...art_hemi_nhra/

The car:

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...l1M0U9Ajhdt0zo

Just noticed this one does not have a '68 grille! Hmmm

HemiDartDave,

This daily Dart fix is a great idea. A lot of the early pictures in this topic are going away. This would be a great way to preserve some of them and introduce some new ones.
ANYONE, post up a new one.....one Dart and one day at a time.
