Re: Original hemi dart information
for your Hemi Dart fix of the day. A very competitive state of the art car back in the 80's/ early 90's. Original LO23 Dart once owned by a fellow Canadian, currently ( last I knew) owned by John Friel
http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...psdb1e0c7e.jpg[/QUOTE] I think that John Friel bought it from Don MacCallum. Don lives in Ontario CA. |

Daily Dart Fix:
My all time favorite Hemi Dart, even if I didn't previously own it. This is the stick car. Notice Dick has a glove on his shiftin hand. Still own that particular woodgrain steering wheel Dick is hanging onto while rowin' gears. Puts a smile on my face every time I grab onto it in my Dart. liteweight http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8fca0820.jpg |

I'm that Canadian that bought it off Steve in 96 from a 2 line ad in National Dragster. Had no idea it was Landy's @ the time. It was just a real beat up looking original LO23 Dart with loads of potential, & was in the price range I was looking for. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...artKMember.jpg This is how it was when I was "convinced" to sell it. Fully documented by a personal visit by da man hisself Dick Landy. Picked him & his very personable wife Jean up @ the airport in my original hemicuda to bring them back to my place 35 miles away. Dick thought that was pretty cool. A VERY special time to be sure. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/.../Landy2000.jpg Notice a few things on it. first off the obvious colors on front fenders. Second, the ground down paint on the door. This was to find the holes Dick drilled for the HEMI emblems he installed from a 68 Charger. Also, check out the holes behind the headlights. dick converted this car to a 69 & the headlight placement is different, so he cut out that area & installed alluminum sheetmetal to fasten the headlight buckets to in the new postions.. Ever since this car I have loved the spinners also. It's this car that made up my mind to install Cragars on my current LO23 complete with spinners. Still have them, but my current wheels are early 70's original Keystone Classics. A VERY special night after the documentation complete with the finest of prime rib, & a few reallllllly good dark rums http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/.../Landy1998.jpg Same car today http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...ps567bdb30.jpg My current car with the Cragars in 03 complete with spinners. No engine, trans or interior at this time, thus the 4X4 height http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...pt03JPG596.jpg liteweight |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Say Daryl - Might you please share with us some details about how and when you began to suspect that your beat up old Dart was an original Landy race car?
Thanks |

Here it is with current owner Todd Werner. turn it LOUD!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZtYtwNT-4w liteweight The completed car looks drop dead georgous, but I think he should reinstall the HEMI emblems on the doors along with the trunk filler panel. Both telltail trademarks for this car. |
Re: Original hemi dart information
not of the best quality but definately my favorite pic of Dick in this car. Tires bitin' HARD, Wheels up, grabbin' second, & trademark cigar clinched in his teeth. All while doing a photo op looking at the camera. A true proffesional in every way.
liteweight http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...psc37d2e70.jpg . notice it has the 68 side markers & 68 butt stripe, but a 69 grill at this time. Later he filled the markers & put a 69 stripe on it, but didn't install the 69 rectangular side markers. Also, you can really see the Charger HEMI emblems on the doors. Notice the wheel well trim. These cars didn't get that. Dick told me he installed them because the Hurst modified openings were so crude that he cut the back of his hand installing the slicks once. |

Well...ok.
Back around post 1152 it was stated that this was the Johnny Rivers Dart. Also stated it was rolled on the street and later rebodied. Just reporting what was posted, not stating as fact. http://www.classracer.com/classforum...6&d=1318722221 |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Charlie, any info that the Hemi Dart ended up in the Detroit area?

At that time it had a VERY MILD street hemi that I built for my cuda, complete with pump gas friendly 10.25 compression, & a .509" flat tappet hydraulic camshaft. Fiqured I'd bolt the Xram on top & drop it into the Dart for a couple seasons while I was building the "real" motor. I was expecting it to be pretty much of a turd to drive with the Xram etc, but with a 5200 9" converter, 4.56's, & some rejetting it wasn't all that bad on the street,----soooo...... I fiqured let's throw it on the track just for the hey of it. With complete exhaust still attached, it ran 10.94,10.93, & a 10.90 @ 122,123mph. The slicks were total overkill. Motor didn't have enough power to make them work. I quess not bad times considering it had 3 bent valves. Lesson learned!!!!! NEVER ASSUME when you buy a freshly machined motor from someone & even tho both deck surfaces are freshly refaced that they are the same height................... I measured only one side & did my piston valve clearance on that side............. It just happened to be the tall side........................ I found out after the fact liteweight |
