Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted

I can lend a little insight to the people who were wondering about Quaker City. Last year they had a huge crowd on Sat. night. The pro-am had a little over 200 cars on Sat and about 180 on Sun.
The number of spectators on Sat. seems to be the issue. Unlike most tracks the "night of thrills" or "night under fire" whatever it was called this year, took place along with the pro-am. Quaker was given a percentage of the gate for all the spectators. There was a large dissagreemnent on the amount of paid admissions. Rumor was they were told 4800 paid. Management believed the number to be much higher. This is where the hard feelings come in. Possibly where the QCR boycott of the brackets finals comes in also. There were still some "feelings" from yrs ago when the Div. race at Dragway 42 was to be moved to QCR but instead got moved to Milan. As you can see the two parties just can not get along.

Joker,
Thanks for the insight. It seemed like there were at least 5,000 spectators on Saturday night. Like I said in my earlier post, someone made a lot money that night. I was there and actually won stock that night. We had to come back to the staging lanes for pictures. It took what seemed like at least an hour to get everyone out of the stands and under control before they could get the pictures all taken. I have never seen so many people at a division race in my life. It is just a shame that they couldn't make it happen again. Even though the jet show was a pain in the butt for us racers, it obviously brings in spectators, maybe they should do that more to keep these races making money. Then, maybe, they could pay us more, LOL!!

who was working the gate at Quaker? was it their folks, or was it someone else?
I am pretty sure it was their track employees at the gate when I got there on Friday afternoon.

Saturday morning around 11 am IHRA took over the gates. That in itself was a hassle. Anyone arriving before 11 could not get a pass to the pit side because the "night of fire" tickets were not available. IHRA had them. It is a shame there will not be a race there becasue it is one of the nicer facilities. Thompson on May 1st ??? great scheduling.

Yeah, it took me like at least 30 minutes to get in on Saturday morning about that time.

Also, it could very well be snowing May 1st at Thompson, or being Ohio, it could be 80!

I can say that I have been hearing two things about Thompson Raceway.........Everyone is saying that the traction is very good and that they made a wise decision going 1/8th mile for this race. I for one can't wait to find out!

I went to an NSCA race at Thompson in '07 to run the Jeg's S/SS race. Track seemed to be in great shape then in my opinion. I think it was in August, so it was pretty hot too. They had some "street" cars there running 200 mph in the 1/4. At the finish line, the track starts to drop off, so you do have to be careful. The return road kind of winds itself back like clay city.
I don't remember what kind of scales they have. Track is also out in the country too (compared to alot we go to) -unless I went the wrong way to get there!

I would bet more for snow than heat on May 1st. Its sort of close to nowhere. Alot of the roads have an extra lane to the right with a green trail down the middle of it, if you know what I mean LOL Be Carefull towing you might run up on a buggy at any minute.I hope IHRA re-sets the roll-out cause last yr. the 60' were at least .03 quick and the roll-out was about .040 loser than any other track. I have a budddy who does very well up there. These numbers were confirmed through him. 1/8 mile was a no-brainer.

I see they have once again stacked the Div. 9 races. Still a TBA date though.
