I'm surprised that I haven't seen Isonhood mentioned. Maybe I missed it along the way.

Though Division 1 always had some stout door cars, Division 4 had a real murderer's row when it came to Modified.

The same Opel raced by Patterson and Wayne County wound up with Mike Edwards at one time also. I can't remember if it was his deal alone or something to do with Nickens when he worked for him.

Back in the 70s, even the little 1/8 mile tracks around here would hold a $1000 race a couple of time a year. The local guys loved it but then Hielscher would start dropping in and then Wayne County followed. Their Camaro was bad enough, but when they started racing the Opel most of the local guys pretty much just threw their hands up.

I forgot about Lindley also. His young son would lay up on the hood of that Vette to prime the injectors to start it when he was running Hilborns. Lot's of bad-azzed Modified cars in Div 4 "back in the day".

"Back in the day" when I ran a F/MP in Div 3 it would be nothing to have probably 8-10/12 cars just trying to win F/MP to get in the show--a Divisional meet would have maybe 60++++ cars for a 32 car field---There were NO SLOUCHES in our Division and after competing in other divisions I guarantee you that on any given day I'll bet you that barring a redlight or breakage most anybody that qualified in the top 16 could win!!!!
Many good racers out there still involved either as drivers or owners/helpers/ etc. It's kinda hard to say that any one car/driver was more successful than anybody else it all depended on what time frame or division they were in too.

I really liked Lindley, he was down to earth and a great racer. He helped me a lot. Didn't he win the Springnationals one year???

Sorry to tell you guys that the Opal died at a La. Race track.
Vic Custer @ EasTex Race cars sent me an engine to re do / update and later I found out it was going in the W/County/Patterson Opal. I think it was back in the early 2,000's... '02 or '03.
Then a little time passed and I was talking to him and ask if the work I did helped it pick up. He said it picked up.. up and into the rail and on it's top... Totaled. That is the last info I have on it. I think it happened at Red River/ Thunder Road or what ever they are calling that track just north of Shreveport @ Giliam La. You know now that I think about it I'm wondering if I got paid or Reimbursed for that job.. Hum!! :~(
The last thing I heard of Lindley was he had moved from the Gilmer/Gladewater area of East Texas and has a Speed Shop in Clear Lake, Tx
Some one needs to have a reunion race of all the old Modified racers.

Modified Production, listing winning names in this class would take a long time. To win your class in C/MP, D/MP, E/MP, etc. to get into the eliminator would take some serious heads up racing. This class was as big to spectators and racers alike as any. The high winding, 10grand plus, cars with the wheels up were always a good show. Seeing the names already mentioned brings back a lot of memories. I'll try to get some local NC pictures posted on here. Keep the posts going

Up here in the Northwest, the Frizzell Brothers had their fair share of victories. My buddy has one of their old 67 Camaros.
