It doesn't matter who is writing the check just as long as you can get somebody to write a big one. It takes a tremendous amount of money to run these things and the teams will do whatever it takes to get it. If summit racing didn't want to sponsor Greg's team because of his arrogance or attitude he probably would not be driving that car. Erica just happens to bring a sponsor with her, can she drive? I don't know I pretty much believe a monkey could drive one. The deal is who can bring the money to the table gets the ride.

I disagree that the driver isn't that important. I think a great driver is absolutely a huge key ingredient in having a successful team. Erica's driving has certainly improved and it's showing in results. In a class that is separated by .07 from #1 and not getting in the show. The driver actually has to cut a light, change all gears and deal with how unstable the cars are on the top end with near zero downforce. I'd say the cars are quite difficult to drive one to the winners circle. Heck Johnson has a huge performance advantage(sitting in #1 spot most times ET/MPH) and he hasn't be dominate in the class(winning every race).
No doubt money is a massive key ingredient but all the money in the world isn't going to make up for a poor or even average driver.

I plan to eventually head to prostock within the next 6-10 years. I do not have the budget to run my own car yet but I'm working on it.

I'd guess that about 90% of the people driving today at the sportsman level could not drive well enough to make the field in a competitive car.

Also, would it not be advantageous to have a driver that only has to worry about driving? Sure, its an impressive feat, but having your mind wonder on you has to be easier when you drive and tune. I know if I owned a team, I wouldn't want my driver to have to worry about what problems the car maybe having and focus only on driving the car. Also, anybody ever think about all of the skill that has to be learned to drive these cars. Knowing when to short shift, having quick responses to guide the car during the 1-2, 2-3 shifts when it moves far out of the groove, being able to feel the car and analyze whats going on, cutting great lights, and the list goes on. I highly doubt that its as easy as some of you claim.

How are the check writer/engine builder/driver working out in any pro class now these days? Times have changed and I miss them.

Yeah that "monkey" only ran a .51 to your hero's .53.And look at their RT's round 1.And she ran .55 to match the hero's et.Wow she bulbed by a whole .003.Think you can do that

He's not my hero Ed, really don't care for him after I saw him blow a bunch of people off at a local track here. I am pretty impressed by Erica's reaction times and notice most every race hers and Nobile's are among the best but let's face it this is what they should be doing, its not like they have a 9 to 5 job where they don't have time to practice. Another thing I find humorous is that nobody says anything about Jeg's( don't blast me I like him) daddy cutting the checks. Oh yeah, I do think if I had one them rides I could do it if I didn't I wouldn't be racing but I'm sure we'll never know.:)

I really think you are wrong here. Drivers play a huge Part in winning. I was certainly not an Erica fan and I wouldn't say I am now however I think I recognize her talent and huge improvement in her driving lately.

Allen Johnson does not have a "huge" advantage. He has never qualified with .01 or .02 better than anyone. Now Anderson is the one who always seems to find .02 or .03 come eliminations time. He still does it with the new car but it just hasn't been enough yet to help him.

I really wouldn't wait ten years to start with your Pro Stock efforts as I really doubt there will be a Pro Stock class then. Jim
