Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Glad to see that you two were able to avoid the "North 40", and I hope you enjoyed the "Block Party" in Golden as well...I wish I was back there after being here in metro Phx. for 3yrs. My budget was much better there even though the trips to races like you two have been to were longer. Have a great time, and I'll be rooting for you two from the "valley of the sun"!

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Larry you all take your time getting back. The weather here is miserable. Heat indexes the next two days around 105-108.

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
check out the Morrison Inn, great food and killer margaritas. They are just around the corner
out of the track to the right 1/2 mile approx, within golf cart range. |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Morrison Inn - Killer margaritas, but very average to below average Mexican food....

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Well, it is another beautiful day here at the Mopar Mile-High Nationals. Super street starts out at noon, then stock. Weather calls for 93 this afternoon, with no rain til around 9, but it has been showering every afternoon. We are supposed to get 2 runs, then start class. I just hope the car gets down the track. It doesn't sound too spiffy with all the jet changes!
Well, I am going out to get some pics before we run. More later. |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Larry, altitude sickness can stike at high elevations such as where you are, due to less oxygen in the air. Classic symptoms might not be immediately apparent, symptoms are what you were experiencing such as throbbing headache, fatique, nausea, shortness of breathe and finally dizziness. Best remedy is find a quiet spot to rest, sit down, drink plenty of water and elevate your legs. Alway's carry plenty of water with you in the car and carry twice as much as you think you will need, sip the water at regular intervals. When you're not use to altitude shifts, your heart can suffer the most as we age. Be careful and good luck. Claude

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
We have had 2 runs and will run class shortly. First run DA was 9916, 2nd run our Nova computer kept giving an error. Evidently it doesn't work above 10000.
Right now Hagberg was quickest at 10.86, so I think they have agreed that the quickest would get the bye. So Larry has to run Ronnie West 1st round. Larry has had a .013 and a.010 light, so maybe he can get them on the light. It is hot, 93. Keith made 1 pass in the "Droozemobile" but it didn't look too good. More later |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Good luck this weekend and thank you very very much for sharing your western swing tour with all of us. I know I appreciate the posts and pics...just wondering why you "Larry" weren't on stage singing country western? Auburn..Oh ask maybe next time Star.. ;)

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
You called it, Patsy!! Way to go Larry; .019 to Ronnie's .224!!

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Well, we got by Ronnie, but not Steve. Ours spun and went for the tree and it was all over then.
I have been down talking to Keith, and of course, we have them 1st round. They have only made 1 run and it was pretty ugly. They have been working on it all day, and he said they would be there in the morning. Chris was down here looking for some kind of sensor. Dic Geary won class for the 1st time, so I think we are going out celebrating with them. |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Larry & Patsy.
Great job on your post's and congrats on your wins. When you stay @ Walmart's do you have to contact anyone prior to parking or just pull in and park?? Jim Davis |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Jim,
We would just park under a light, never had any trouble. |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
I'm not a racer, just a fan that likes to take pictures of the SS and Stock cars. I want to thank ya'll for taking me on a great trip across the US. I hope to meet ya'll in Charlotte in September if you are coming?
Butch2246 |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
At Walmarts we never contact anyone. If they don't want you to stay there, they will come over and tell you.
We don't know yet if we will go to Charlotte in the fall. More tomorrow. It has been a long hot day! |

BUT Thanks to Ma Mopar and their Drag Pak Demo motor, which just happened to of course have the right sensor...:) Well.....Thanks to Dale Aldo, Brian Falzone , Evan, Darwin, and the rest of the Mopar crew we were invited to come steal it. :D So thats in order, and the baro tables were off, so I have no idea whats gonna happen tommorow, BUT were not going to be running the Hills first round, a couple broken cars that didnt report created a shuffle in the pairings, the new pairings just got posted at about 9 o clock as we were looking at them they got replaced.... Well see the car was running spot on in Dayton at Keiths....now ? Its off, how much is altitude and the baro tables, well tommorow will tell, we were at 81kpa for the run.... But well do what we always do keep trying even when common sense dictates we should quit  Besides were having fun and the trip was worth it for friends and family for both sides of the team coming from SLC. All good.... Sorry Rich.....you apparently didnt get or read the post of why the car was put up at that price....no suprise... |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Larry, Greg Hill was inquiring about the DQ's in stock on another thread. Do you have any info about them?
|
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Dad get's to race the EF/S.
The EF/S gets an EIGHT second head start and the closing speed differnce will be 50 mph! Dad needs to be within a motorhome length of the car at the first MPH light. This one will be fun to watch and race in. |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Patsy,
Bob Frey has the story for DRC ready for Larry to review. If you have received it by e-mail, please reply to Bob and let him know. If not, he has printed a hard copy for you. |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Thanks Dave, we finally got the email and took the copy down to the announcers booth this morning.
On the DQs: Brandt's fuel did not check on his first run, then he was never able to make another run. The car wouldn't start or something 2 other times he came up to race. Koski made 1 pass, but it was bad and he did not weigh or fuel check. Young blew up 1st pass and did not weigh or fuel check. So now we are on our 3rd ladder, but everything is finally set. It is another great day here in Denver. It is supposed to be a lot cooler today. 81 for the high. When we run it will probably be about 70, so it should be fun to dial! Something I would like to commend Bandimere Raceway on that I have not seen at any other track. If you go over to the credential upgrade booth in the morning each day, they will upgrade your crew ticket to a reserved seat for the day. That is really great. I was able to get tickets over close to the outside railing to where I could use going down. These are really great grandstands for spectators, but if you don't like heights, it can be scary--especially going down the steps with no railings. I have a few pics that I will try to post later. |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
They haven't posted today's schedule on DRC yet, but they start with a time trial for Super gas and super stock which they missed yesterday, then round 1 of super street and stock.

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Larry,
Looks like you are clear for a while on heads up races! Good luck! |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Thanks, Kevin.
We got by round 1 after Stan red-lighted. Larry had it dialed pretty well, but the car isn't hooking here at all. We have a tough run with Scott Burton next. More later. |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Well the car finally hooked a little better and we lost in a double-breakout. Larry had a .010 light to Scott's .013. Then Scott broke out .01 and Larry broke out .03.
Well we are going to get packed up this afternoon and back on the road whenever we can get out. More later. |

Hey Larry, Just curious, but have you seen at any of the tracks back east a cool down island such as the one that's just beyond (but on the hill side), the weight scale? That island is capable of cooling down 12 race cars at once (as long as the drivers go up to each water outlet/hose the proper way)! I ask because only one other track (out of 18 so-far) that I've been fortunate enough to race on has had anything remotely close to theirs (Pueblo Motor Sports Park has 4-6 of them). That had to stick out at ya too, huh? Fair warning (if you didn't notice already), it's not for drinking though! More reason to be home sick for Denver... :( |

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Ditto on thanks for taking us along on your tour. It was very enjoyable. Good luck and have a safe drive home.
|
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Thanks Larry and Patsy for a great ring side seat. Ya'll have done a great job of keeping us less fortunate ones informed and also some great sightseeing pictures and great shots of the people that make going to the drag races fun.
Thanks again. Hope you can make it to Charlotte in September, would love to get some shots of you leaving the line "Wheels UP". |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Well, we got as far as Goodland, KS. Before we left we went over and talked with Brent Hajek. He is still enjoying his Mustangs. I imagine we will see lots of them at Indy. Also talked with Keith Lynch. The "Droozemobile" got best appearing?? I think. We really enjoyed spending some time with Dic and Debbie Geary. (Sorry, I spelled your name wrong earlier.) Oh, and Redman, it was not Harold that told me about your birthday, but it was Cash. Sorry, Cash. If I have made mistakes in this, please tell me. Good luck to everyone still in at Denver. If I could make a prediction--I predict that Scott Burton will either win or runner-up. That is what has happened to the people who have beat Larry the last 2 weeks. Kevin Cour won Seattle and Jim Durham ran it up at Sonoma!
Thanks to everyone for their good wishes for us. We will be back on the road home tomorrow, so I will continue with the journey then. Patsy |
Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
It was so great for me to meet you two,,,thanks for taking all of us along for the ride. We're all hoping for a safe and incident free trip home for you. Take care.
