Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Stock eliminator round 1 just finished up. Some very impressive runs to note. I would say the air was better, but hard to gauge because most racers were back in bracket mode.

Ford Racing offers mechanical throttle bodies for the Cobra Jet's also. I assume these are for the electronically challenged such as myself. thanks, Roland |

That first round win for Brian oughta make him feel a little better.
Looks like the CJ's are going down fast. |
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
I was at Indy Thursday & Friday from some very good sources There is new cals for the SC engines if you agree to play by their rules you get them if you don't TOO BAD. Heard this more than once.

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Blueoval, can you spell that out a little more?

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Virtually anyone can tune the CJs using aftermarket software, which is available from Diablosport, SCT or any number of tuning outfits. You can also install a stand-alone computer, but the ones that control electronic TBs are very expensive. Racers are not reliant on the Ford computer, or Ford tuning, although some have continued to use it with Ford Racing calibrations.
It's not as top secret as you think and anyone can purchase the software and hardware required to tune a new CJ or ANY EFI OBD-II or newer equipped vehicle. Most modern performance shops that work on new cars have this technology. In the end you are only controlling throttle opening, fuel and timing, which you can do on a carbureted car with hand tools. It's still just an internal combustion engine. |

I was in the tower for the first round of class for SS cars, it was fun to see the ET/MPH and how some racers had 1000 foot deals worked out. Herb Jr[/QUOTE] FUN ! Thats not racing thats more like playing with yourself when you have a beautiful woman to do it for you. 1000 ft deals is just one more reason the spectators love John Force. Even S/G would be more interesting ! |

I could not see myself agreeing to race to the 1000' and lift I'd quit racing (if you call it that)first. Last year at Indy Tim Kish and I ran each other for class. There was no talk of running to 1000' . We both knew we could get the instant hit. Fine situation? Lose class and get an instant hit to boot. We shook hands, wished each other luck, and raced. That is the way it should be. |
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Well, I too just got back from Thursday and Friday at Indy. Looked at DRC after first round of stock. WOW. I thought a 10.01 for C/SA during qualifying was flying. Boy was I wrong. 9.79 @ 135.65 C/SA is a wake up call for NHRA.

From what I heard, everyone made it through super stock tear down. Here are some photos of ss tear down, was hard to get close to the guys in garage.
I think this is the first time in stock and super stock that know one has been thrown out at Indy Weather wiser it has been a beautiful day, windy bit nice. |

Has anybody heard any details on why the Caro/Wofford SS/JA Volare was DQed at the barn?
|
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Gordie,
I was premature on telling everyone that no one was tossed in ss. Caro was tossed for exhaust port cc's and Jeff Taylor driving DeFrank's GT/DA Cobalt was tossed for wheelbase. |

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Well, we left Indy this morning after the 3rd round of stock. Sorry I had not been posting, we had a few issues to deal with. It looked like it was going to be another nice day there, sunny and 50s when we left, headed for the 70s.
So now for our Indy 2010. It pretty much sucked! I did enjoy seeing our old friends and meeting new ones and our "backyardigan" engine made the show. But that was it for good things. On the 2nd pass on Wed., we blew up the engine. Then on Thurs, we had to suffer thru the new cars beating up on the old cars in class. Friday, super stock class was ok. But then Friday night, Larry started having chest and neck pain. So to make a long story short, he is fine. But heart attack symptoms were there, so after a trip to the medical center at the track, then the emergency room and being admitted to the hospital, we discover that he had pulled muscles in his chest and neck whenever he put the intake with the carbs back on the car. It didn't hurt at the time, but after he cooled off in the evening, for some reason it started to hurt him and he had a headache and his blood pressure went sky high. I guess it will it you are afraid you are having a heart attack. But he is fine. But that certainly contributed to a bad Indy. We do want to thank Mike and Paula Cotten for getting us to the medical center and everything else they did for taking care of us. Also thanks to the staff at the track that did such a good job. Also thanks to Mike Cotten, Jerry and Mike Bennett, and George Widuch for loading everything up for us and getting us ready to come home. After Larry was dismissed from the hospital, we got back to the motorhome and everything was ready to go. Jerry Bennett was even going to drive it home, but we decided to stay last night and rest up and head home this morning. Larry is feeling fine today and no problems at all driving home. But thanks for everyone's help and it was great to see everyone again. We are probably done for this year unless he decides to get the little red truck out again. But we will be seeing everyone soon! Bye for now! Patsy |
Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Glad to here it wasn't serious. Being one that has had one, you can't take those pains lightly. Have a safe trip home and thank you for all the reporting.

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Thanks so much for the pics and reports. It always hurts to lose and engine or trans. but it pales in comparison to how fragile our health can be at times. So glad to hear Larry is feeling ok and will be getting some follow up on "ticker" once back at home.

Re: "Live" from Indy! 2010
Larry and Patsy, from an old guy that still tries to keep up with the racing action, you guys and your contributors are like manna from heaven. Not only the insights you provide but the outstanding pictures go a long way to ease the pain of not being there.
So glad to hear Larry's pain problems were just a pulled muscle. Like so many of my friends in the racing world, I have had the heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery...thank the Lord for talented doctors and nurses. Mine was some 18 years ago and while I have cleaned up my act, lifestyle wise, the end result is I'm doing pretty good for an old guy! Again, many many thanks for all your help...and gently suggest to Larry he find some talented YOUNG person to do the heavy lifting!!! Might ease the pain the next time! Take care and stay well. MaC |
