Re: Class Nationals event planning

There were 108 Stockers at Columbus this weekend. Only 7 were Div. 1 cars. One month ago, the Lebanon Valley Div. 1 LODRS event drew 111 Stockers, with not a single Div. 3 car. The Cordova Div. 5 event drew 54 Stockers, with 25 Div. 3 cars... just looking at three representative events, there were over 250 Stockers in competition... and that's not even looking at the other divisions! With the right weather to go along with our date and location, it's a very real possibility that we could see over 200 Stockers and 180 Super Stockers at the Northern Class Nationals.

We've already gone through our first short run of promotional decals. We'll make more. Thanks to everyone who is helping to spread the word!
https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...71832811_n.jpg

In order to keep the staging lanes from being a cluster and racers having to sit in the lanes forever, we will be randomly distributing colored "run decals" when you go through tech. They serve multiple purposes, not only as a commemorative participant decal, but also to verify that a car has gone through tech, and allows us to mark off Qualifying runs. In the event of a 'cleanup' session, we'll easily be able to tell who still has a run left to make. We will call cars to the lanes by colors, for example Stock RED, Stock BLUE, Super Stock RED, Super Stock BLUE. We use run stickers at all of our big money bracket races, and it makes big car count races run MUCH smoother. We want to get you in the lanes and down the track as efficiently as possible!

(Not a final design, but just to give you an idea...)
http://www.looserocker.com/ncn/NCN_run.JPG

As Nitro Joe said, this event will be ALL RUN, and Sunday's $5K main events will be laddered right from the start! We'll be done with Qualifying Saturday afternoon, leaving Nitro plenty of time to generate ladders, so everyone will know their pairings the night before eliminations. (although we're working behind the scenes on a way to computer-generate ladders over 128 cars and save a whooole lot of "handiwork") If you can, hook up with your dance partner in the morning and come to the lanes together. Many of us were asked to do so at the Norwalk National event due to cramped quarters behind the rear of staging, and it made the pairing process much easier on everyone involved.

'Course this is all stuff we'll go over in the weeks leading up to the event, but "while we're thinking of it..."

I'm planning on going Mike.

Love the Stickers.... Shirts maybe ????

Michael Beard 07-22-2013 04:19 PM

Re: Class Nationals event planning

We will definitely have event shirts -- and top quality ones at that. Already done some research on vendors/costs/pricing, etc. I'm a graphic designer, but sadly never learned the process for silkscreen, so this is one that'll actually have to be farmed out. But I've got ideas in my head.

In totally unrelated news, I can't remember if we made an official announcement earlier in the year or not, so without further ado...

Might be red, might be blue, but will just be one of those colors (not a finalized design yet: hope to add sponsors), then likely alternate every other year. I will also do Eliminator Winner decals for the winners of the Quick 32's, the NitroPlate S/SS Combo Warmup, Ultimate Converter Stock Eliminator, and Super Stock Eliminator.

The different colors on the run stickers are just to help separate up very large fields and keep the staging lanes running smoothly.

Re: Class Nationals event planning

Mike, not trying to be too critical of your comments but at the Columbus LODRS...of
the 7 D1 Stock entries....one was from Indiana...and the rest from Western NY and
Western PA...

There were 6 D1 SS entries....ALL from Western NY/PA.....

These racers always go to Columbus...(I've checked DRC)...most likely because it's
something like 4-6 hours CLOSER than let's say Epping....maybe more?

Factor in the heat wave at Epping....and you know why they stayed away!

Lebanon Valley is a LONG way also...from the "heart" of D3...and can be HOT there
as well...UNLESS you're in the points and need to grab an out of Division event...

Well....enough of that!

Mike...I DO want to say THANK YOU for all the hard work you've done to bring back
the Class Nationals...It's not here yet...but looks to be a CAN'T MISS event....

Not sure if I can make all 3 days...want to see the Finals on Sunday...but want to see
Class Elims too...might have to skip Friday for Sunday....

I hope that Bob Michael goes....with the Grand Prix! Likewise...Denny Ford...with the
409 Chevy......

You guys listening?

Mike Carr 07-24-2013 02:54 PM

Re: Class Nationals event planning

I live on the PA/OH line (1.5 miles from Ohio). Columbus is 170 miles or so. Norwalk is 140. So, for Pittsburgh area racers, maybe 200 and 175 (give or take).

For me, Maple Grove at 300 miles is my closest in-Division race. I went to Lebanon Valley to spectate in 1997, it was about 525. Epping is quite a bit further for me, maybe 700-750 miles (750 is the same distance, give or take, as Atlanta would be).

So yeah, Ohio is MUCH closer for some D-1 racers to go to two races, and skip LebVal and Epping.

Not critical -- that was precisely my point! There is virtually no overlap at LODRS races, meaning that the total number of potential Stock and Super Stock competitors within a day's tow is astronomical. 300-350 cars for the event is quite attainable.

Is there an entry list of cars that are going to be there yet? Maybe you can start one the more cars on the list may draw more cars if that makes sense. If it is going to be bigger than Indy would like to be there.

Thanks James

Lists would not be representative of the final turnout, as there are people who are not online, or folks who won't know if they can make it or not until the last minute. I can tell you that almost everyone I've spoken to has said "I'll be there!" I have strolled through the pits and had folks that I don't even know holler, "HEY! I'm coming to that race next year!" With our date, location, and lead time on the event, I believe we will rival the original US Class Nationals. We should be in the 300-350 cars neighborhood -- perhaps higher if things go well. I will continue to work on sponsors, staffing, and extras for the event all year long.

For long-distance travelers, based on the traditional NHRA Div. 3 schedule, we will likely be the week after the Indy LODRS, if you want to make a 'swing' out of things.

The event logo will be undergoing some updating shortly... but I'll get with you via e-mail to handle logos/decals/sponsor agreement, etc.

No. This is an independent event, so any performances will have no bearing on any sanctioning body records, indexes, AHFS, etc.

Re: Class Nationals event planning

Can you believe it's been almost 9 months since we started event planning? Time has flown by, and we are only another 9 months away from opening the gates for the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals. Thank you so much to each and every sponsor, racer, fan, and staff member for your tremendous support in bringing this event to life.

We'll be doing the first print run of flyers within the next couple of weeks. If you own or are associated with a company that would like to be involved in the event, contact me at staginglight@gmail.com. We can tailor a marketing package to fit any budget, large or small.

If people would like to support a particular class in Class Eliminations, like McCarthy & Bell are doing with U/SA, or DanSources and RCE are with the Pure Stock classes, we're more than happy to advertise it on the flyer and pass on awards directly to the racers -- no admin fees.

There's always specialty awards as well, i.e., #1 Qualifier, Best Wheelstand, Hard Luck Award, 'Best Losing Package' round prizes, door prizes for the Racer Appreciation Party... plenty of opportunities for individuals or smaller-budget sponsors.

We will continue to work on sponsors all year long, and update the online flyer as we go, and we'll do additional print runs of flyers down the road, but if you want to make the first print run, now's the time!

I'm considering gathering up all my pennies and going to the Class Nationals in Ohio next May. I figure I need to start working on some other SS/K guys so we can have our version of a shootout. Here are the names i thought of so far. I think all of these cars could get into K. If not let me know. If you know of someone I forgot please let me know. I have no chance but it would be fun.

Tim Nicholson
Robin Brown
Gene Bichlmeier
Wayne Denklau
Scott Gray
David Smith
Larry Wilson
Roger Rosebush
Greg Smith ( I had heard he was coming back)
Myself
Bill Zaskowski ( Currently running a 327)
Tony Fillipone ( He has a 283)
Dan Schliecker (Sp? Sorry Dan)
James Hill
Kip Martin
Bobby Fazio
Matt Steen

Maybe get Liberty, Jerico, GForce, McLeod, etc to sponsor it.

Re: Class Nationals event planning

Great ideas. I appreciate the enthusiam, and everyone working together. If you have contacts for specific companies, you can PM them to me or e-mail staginglight@gmail.com We've been working hard on the sponsorship front. We have several companies expressing a definite interest that just can't release details at this time due to their budget cycles, but you can expect more announcements even after the new year! We'll keep building to make the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals the can't-miss event of the 2014 season.

I'm on the road right now, putting the Volare back together in NC, so I don't have access to all my schtuff, but expect a major announcement later this week!

Pre-entry is an NHRA thing. ;-) We may still offer it, but not until after new years. $260 entry covers qualifying, Class Eliminations, Quick 32 shootouts, and a main event $5k Eliminator on Sunday (2nd Rnd Win = $200!) There's an optional $3k Combo on Saturday, $100 entry (2nd Rnd Win = $50). Might have something else up our sleeves too... :-)
Event flyer at www.looserocker.com/ncn

Nitro Joe - thanks! I'll get your info added to the flyer when I get home.

Re: Class Nationals event planning

http://classracer.com/buckeye.jpg

Jeff Ross, founder of the Buckeye S/SS Series, approached me with an idea for a Junior Stock Shootout. Eligible cars will be those in K/S or K/SA on down, D/PS on down, SGT/F-G, and FWD Stockers. Standard eliminator format: handicapped, sportsman ladder, heads-up runs in effect when applicable. The Quick 32 CIC races on Friday night are certainly going to need a little cooldown time between rounds. By my estimate, Junior Stock would probably be about 25-32 cars, so they should fit in there nicely. (No double entries: i.e., can't run both Quick 32 and Jr Stock)

Just like Class and the Quick 32's, there will be no additional entry fee for Junior Stock participants. Jeff has put up $500/Win and $200/RU. We'll see if we can get some other sponsors to add to the purse. At worst, Loose Rocker Promotions will make sure that Semis get $100, and an Iron Tree trophy for the winner like all the other classes.

You can find all the Buckeye S/SS Series info right here on ClassRacer at http://classracer.com/classforum/forumdisplay.php?f=43 or at www.buckeyerace.com

No -- good catch, thank you. I double checked and IHRA rules for V and W state: "Class V and W are limited to 4 and 6 cylinder entries". The bottom of the weight breaks are the same in V & W are the same as NHRA, so we will use the IHRA engine permissions and not have duplicate classes just for 1-2 cars.
