For others (such as myself) its a day of reflection - of what could have been had things gone differently yesterday .Woulda - coulda - shoulda .Al I know for sure is that a wally didn't take up residence in my RV last night .But I gave it an honest effort ........

Factory Showdown - what a turn of events - its seemed for awhile that the Cobra Jets and Davids' mighty Mopar would run away from the field but its Indy where anything can happen and did -- spinning tires and breakage played a part as they always do ........would you expect anything less here ?

Back a little later ........

Saw your run yesterday Jack. Gave it a good go. I was glad I got to make it up there. Saw some good racing from all competitors. Got to return a couple books to Ron Seibenek, he got a couple round wins. BS with quite a few others. Even ran into a guy from my street racing days back in the mid 70's. He's running SC with the same car today, lol! Wish I had stumbled across you, liked to have met both you and Billy. Maybe another time.

Jack, thanks for the reporting and reflections. You did a hell of a effort and you should be proud. It takes quite a sacrifice just to be there. Good luck the rest of the way.

Got a lot going on today but I figured I'd update the Hemi Challenge ladder.

RD2
Westcott Jr. vs. Perkins
Westcott Sr. vs. Daniels
Houser vs. Pancake
S. Herbert vs Zrust
Comella vs. Barton

also like to add my condolences to the family and friends of Terry Pearson. Sad and shocking news indeed.

Tracy passed...I hope this isn't true! WOW! I know her family is crushed and I can not imagine how her little girl can get over this.

Anyone know why Kenny Schindler and Brandon Wilkinson didn't show for class?

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2013

Brandon and Kenny left early yesterday. Art's father is very ill and they went home to be with him.

Lots of good runs in SS this morning. I took some pics at the barn I will get uploaded in a bit. It is hot again today with not much air stirring. Suppose to be 92 later.

Happy 9th Birthday to Brad and Amy Zaskowski's little girl Lilly today.

Also Happy 21st to Caleb McFarland today!

These last 2 pictures show the end grandstands covered up so that when they show the stands on TV, it looks like there are more people in the stands. Now General Admission is moved up and the Racers do not have any stands just for us!

Is there an engine change in the works or is your race run this year?

you shouldn't be surprised as this is occuring in all forms of outdoor sports and entertainment.........especially motorsports. If anything, NHRA is the last to acknowledge this loss of spectators and by this trick showing up at their largest event at least you now know they've admitted it -- to themselves. Now, perhaps they'll do something about it

As some of you know, Ken Miele drives our three valve stocker. After winning class, Ken got an invitation to the barn and was just kicked out for having head studs in the engine. That was my fault as we were under the impression studs were ok to use in an aluminum block engine as the factory torque-to-yield bolts are one use only and can get to be expensive. I tried to explain my case to NHRA but it fell of deaf ears. Needless to say, the "rules" seem to change day by day and it was my fault for not changing them. Can't tell you how many guys were icing in the lanes, using dry ice in the lanes, dumping water in the lanes, and have incorrect pieces on the cars and get away with it. I simply got caught. Just want to say sorry to Kenny as he knew nothing about the internals of the engine.

Mopar Hemi Challenge finals are set.

Rick Houser vs. Steven Hebert.

Westcott and Houser had a great race in the semi's with Houser taking the win, 8.50 to 8.51.

Mike
I never understood why head studs are not allowed in stock. How do they provide a performance advantage? When I set the record in Rockingham in 1991 I had head studs in my motor at that time. The national event crew did the tear down. Soon thereafter it was declared against the rules and added to the engine section of the rules the following year. Head studs are a practical item for race motors and should be made legal again.

Congrats Randi-Lynn Shipp on your class win and passing tech! That is one fast Pontiac Firebird.

You made the weekend for many of us die-hard Indy fans who could not make it. Our last visit was 2009 and yes one of the highlights was the teardown barn. To pass in there truly means something for all Stock and Super Stock racers!.

I wish you all the best in trying to win Indy in Stock!

M-6067-3V46 head changing kit, $58.30 from Tousley Ford. Expense that would be nice to avoid, but not terrible. I've actually had some Ford powertrain development guys tell me to reuse them 4 times before discarding.

Mike, you should know that head studs make at least 20 hp on the dyno on a stocker ! They are more of a threat than acid ported heads!! LOL
