Those Fords are confusing. Are all the intakes and carbs the same or is it better to run different manifolds or carbs? I have seen some mustang 2s for sale down south for sale as parts cars

Gary, I just looked in the guide in 1977 and I don’t see the head number you have. Do you have something from NHRA that says that is a legal head. I don’t have any doubt about all the heads being the same, just was wondering why you chose that casting number.

All ford heads and intake manifolds are junk back in the smog days

I’m not sure that they made that casting but you know they don’t make mistakes. If you look at specs for 77 they say show piston as .0235 in hole but it’s .00235 but those as@@/holes don’t make mistakes it’s allways us

Gary,
I'm new to stock racing this year. Per the guide it only shows the D7OE-DA head. With that being said did you question why the D7OE-DC heads was not there? I see they just changed the casting on a head that is legal for my combination so was curious how that happens.

D7OE-DA – 1977-1979, 302, Windsor small-block, 1.78/1.45 valves, 69cc chamber
D7OE-DC – 1977-1978, 351, Windsor small-block, 1.78/1.45 valves, 69cc chamber
D7OE-DC – 1977-1979, 302, Windsor small-block, 1.78/1.45 valves, 69cc chamber

Looks like there was one DQ in SS according to the final Q sheet. David Janak. One alternate was added at the bottom.

I have a hard copy of the NHRA Tech Bulletin from 1998... it's the only head listed for his combo. They recently changed the casting # -DC to -DA. It took nearly 40 years to figure out there was a typo? Really?

I cannot seem to get it to upload it here. I can email it to someone who might be able to.

Did anyone notice that the two oldest SS cars on the property were tore down? When was the last time you saw 2 SS/O 55's being tore down? But how many late model cars were there? Were any SS/JA cars tore down, wide variety and way under? Just interesting.

I saw that, and thinking maybe.. what better opportunity to compare two very similar engines?

Back to back 128 car classes at the scales to start your morning off right - maybe they will only weigh heads up races

Today - I would Eliminate these non-standard classes -

Street Car Showdown
Gassers
Pro Mod T

As for SS/JA we did go thru tear down on Friday we hurt engine and asked if we could pull apart early to see if was fixable. It was not fixable and YES we’re are legal with the magical cylinder heads that we have NHRA took pics of head and quoted “as per Rule book these heads are legal”. Thanks to #M/T, #VP, #John Holt Race cars, #ATI, # Sepanek transmissions, #John Gulius, #Royal Purple,

This issue is really something for the racer and nhra to work out. But I will tell you that the guide you have is pretty much useless in this situation. I bought the Chevrolet section of the guide back in 1996 and attempted to use it to make a point with the nhra staff in the early 2000's and was told to pound sand. They made it very clear that we are to run by the current guide unless and untill nhra decides to change it. You can use an old guide to help prove a point about a combination and they may work with you but you can't apply it retroactively to reverse a penalty.
