Re: SS/E 2008 Mustang at Atlanta
In reading through these posts, it never fails to amaze me that supposed S/SS racers get on here and throw out specifications based on assumptions and not easily found facts. Maybe that's a clue into how there own program is run.
For example, the engine in question (2008 Cobra Jet package) is NOT a 3-V engine, it is a 5.4 4-V engine, very similar to the Shelby engine, rated 500 FP per OEM until recently upgraded to 540 HP w/ tunning upgrades. Here is a snap-shot from the NHRA 2008 Ford engine blueprint showing how many valves: (note the 425 HP 330 or 5.4L 4-V is 49 CID smaller than the 510 HP 4.6L 3-V) HP Disp Cl Type Height Vol Valves Cam Lift Gasket Springs 300 281 .000 Dish .050” 4.8 cc 2@1340/1@1500 473/473 .037 Beehive 325 281 .000 Dish .050” 4.8 cc 2@1340/1@1500 473/473 .037 Beehive 425 330 .074 Dish .118” 13.5 cc 2@1456/2@1259 413/413 .037 Beehive 430 281 .000 Dish .050” 4.8 cc 2@1340/1@1500 473/473 .037 Beehive 510 281 .000 Dish .098” 10.5 cc 2@1340/1@1500 473/473 .037 Beehive |
Re: SS/E 2008 Mustang at Atlanta
Okay I've been reading this and I don't see any proof (link, Video, ect...) of a 146 mph pass. Did I miss something? To me if there's not a video or a creditable link that shows a 146 mph pass it didn't happen.

A/SA,
Check the class guides before you roll out here with your little Ford rant. The little 281 motor with the three valve head is in the nhra blue print sheets at 510 HP. The extra 150 horsepower figure comes from the Ford folks, sorry you can't accept that. 69 Cobra, There have been thousands of passes that you have not personally watched or seen on video. You don't believe they happened either??? Sorry, no amount of huff'n puff can change this cars numbers. Dyndorf, Leg to stand on? The old motors did not have blowers or the technology that your little cj has. 140+ mph on it's third time out gives us a leg to stand on and gives you no defense for this car. |

Bruce,
No huff'n and puff'n here! I'm just calling BS until you can show me that one made a 146mph pass. Also you keep talking about the Roush P-51 which is rated at 510. That is a completly different engine with a much better intake, heads, cam, and compression combo. Its like comparing a comp engine to a stock 327 2bbl. Waiting on that link btw.... |
Re: SS/E 2008 Mustang at Atlanta
Cutta,
nhra is meant to make a good faith effort to determine the true horsepower of a combination before it issues it's factored Horsepower. In this case they just took Ford's word for it and now we have a 750+ Horsepower car in Stock. 69 Cobra, I made reference to the 510 motor as a method of comparison one time. I called the little 281 motor the cousin of the 330 motor and said the 330 motor should given the same Horsepower. I still believe that. Did you see the first 200 mph run in nhra history or how about the first 286 mph run in nhra history? No BS they really happened. |
Re: SS/E 2008 Mustang at Atlanta
I think the point that 69Cobra is trying to make is that the 146 mph run can be verified by nothing more than hearsay at this point. The other runs to which you're referring were witnessed by many people and well documented.
I just want to emphasize that I'm not criticizing anyone's viewpoint. For what it's worth, I think they will ultimately need to be factored, but I don't know if they're 85 HP underrated. Should be interesting at Indy when the Challengers and Cobra Jets line up...if the Chally's are done by then. |

No, I did not see the first 200 mph pass or the first 286 mph pass. Probably because, the use of photography or videography was not commonly used by the general public at the time. But today it’s April 22, 2009 and you can't piss in your back yard without someone getting it on camera. You are claiming that this car makes 800 hp and this and that based on a phantom pass that nobody has seen. That's why I'm just saying until someone can show proof I'm calling BS! |
