If its an old muscle car get ready to spend the coin....Some of those guys with 40 year old worn out junk think its made of gold.

I am trying to put together 2, 351 boss motors and I am not having any fun yet:confused:

I am restoring my 1969 Impala Stocker.
Before all said and done will cost $30,000. Doing it right too.
Chassis cleaned, welded reinforced and Powder Coated.
New Suspension pieces, new interior, paint, all rusted panels replaced.

Going to set up as a full Stocker but will run a Pure Stocker Engine that can run the Stock Index.

The maintenance cost of a full up Stocker Engine is daunting.
Want something reliable.

Bill,

I can't imagine the prices for a set of heads and intake for that combo! If you even mention Boss the prices probably double.

As for building a stocker,
The only thing I have farmed out is the engine. If you do your own paint and body work, electrical and suspension that will drastically reduce the price. It won't get done as fast, but you can take pride in your craftsmanship. There are good books to read about painting, body work, and fabrication. Don't let anyone tell you, that you cannot do something yourself. Labor is free, if you have the desire and will to do it. I learned that I would starve to death if I painted cars for a living. But I was not about to pay someone to do it for me.

You can spend $30,000-$50,000 to build a stocker if you want to but you don't have to.
If you really want to race you can build a competitive car for a lot less. But you have to pick the right car, do most of the work yourself, and understand how to make it go fast.
You can build one to run the index for about $2000.
To run a second under might cost $4000-$5000.

Bob I think you would have to at least double what you think and I don't know of anyone that could build yours for about double what you are asking Rich

Fast cars at the top of the ladder will cost 75K to 125K; slower cars at the bottom of the ladder will run 25K to 35K. I know one D/SA car that cost 100K to build and I'm sure there are some lower classes that are under 20K.

Or you can buy one race ready that will run 2 seconds under for $15,000.

A second under for 4-5 K would have to be an oddball combo. A Pro Trans and convertor alone for a 426 Wedge car would set you back 8 plus K and there are only a handfull of them in the world that can run a second under at any cost.
