Another one of the 'questionable' combinations
1965 Corvette 327/250 HP Fell into the {11.50 to 11.99 Wt/HP} > J/SA Class in 1970 and 1971. Let me explain http://110.imagebam.com/download/qfA...y_news-141.JPG |
Re: Early 1970s Raceway News Scans
Paul,
Seems like an incredible amount of cars for such a small track. I never made it to Dover when it was open...I stopped by for a quick walk-through...early '80's...but there was nothing to see... Any info on that M & M shop that I think was in the area? Seem to remember that logo on quite a few class-type cars...did they have a machine shop? If you mentioned them before...could you please direct me to that thread? Thanks! Pete...Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack the thread...BUT I've got to ask this question... What was the name of the snack-bar/restaurant...in the early '70's....on Rte 527? It was on the LH side as you headed to the track from Rte 18...maybe a couple of miles or so? A favorite for racers...we stopped there to inspect the "eye-candy" being towed to and from the track.... |

Billy is correct ! I lived on that road. Pete, the Ave was the place to be, yes I remember Gus, he is my age but I remember Dickey Lyons more, we were well antiquated, he on his cop cycle and me with red lights in my rear window !

SS Wannabee
M & M Speed and Custom Owner; Rich Marchese Rich had '2 locations. I was at the Poughkeepsie Store {Route 44} many times picking up Speed Parts from 1969 thru 1971, before my father started selling Speed Equipment M & M was one of the top Speed Parts outlet stores throughout the Hudson Valley. M & M could get you the newly released Speed Parts 'fast'. They did not have a Machine Shop, as they farmed it out. But I do believe Rich was looking to get a Machine Shop going in the late-1970's http://www.doverdragstrip.com/phpBB3...le.php?id=2971 |

Those were the daze... Pete *I sold my collection of approximately 100 issues to Mike McCandless, son of Herb McCandless because (you guessed it) I needed money at the time (heck, I still need money!). Mike then gave them to his dad as a gift so at least my issues went to a good cause. :) |
