Thanks for taking the time to put into print the sentiment and frustration that most of us feel back home as we watch this race unfold. You are a straight shooter who tells it like it is. I admire you taking your "True Stock" beautiful Vette out there to do battle. The young talented shoes who have lent/sold their skills to help the deep pockets racing teams go rounds are an added insult. I have to believe that things are going to get better, but they won't unless alot more complaining is done to the right people. This is the result of politics and affecting a sport. JimmieC |
Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Toby, :):) Thanks to you and all the other contributors for the videos and pictures. It makes it seem like I am there, almost. Being at Indy is still on my Bucket List. This year was out due to reality giving us a kick in the butt. I don't race anymore, but would love to experience the event called "INDY" as a spectator/helper. Anyway, great videos & pictures. Toby, hope to see you and your brother soon at a race near Seattle. Have a safe trip home, your buddy Ron.
P.S. Was good to visit with you and Jody at the National and Divisional event at Pacific in Kent. |
Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Did anyone hear why Corda was DQed?

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Bruce and Jimmy,
Hope you are not speaking against Gary Richard and his crew directly. Have personally spoken to Gary about all this, he thinks the HP factors are bogus same as the rest of us! These are the rules and he can afford it so why not have some fun! If it was all about stroking his ego why was he driving the Camaro? There are few individuals who have done more for this sport than P.C. Richard. Sponsoring the Open Series in Div. 1, Nights of Thrill at Englishtown, Racer BBQ at the Englishwomen Division Points Race. Not to mention the amount of $$$$ he spends with manufacturers fielding all the cars he owns and those he employs keeping his stable running! This man has passion for this sport and should not be demonized for it!! http://www.nhradiv1.com/content/divn...7200&zoneid=12 Check out the above link! Secondly Anthony Fetch is one of the nicest young men you will meet. He is not of the big ego "I'm great you suck I deserve to win" kind you see so much of in the young hot drivers / young hired guns. To be honest Anthony does not need to be out here, he wants to run NHRA. Am sure with the right equipment Anthony would make a nice living hitting the big money electronics and footbrake races. His name won't be in ND but students of the sport would still know who he is! The issue here is with Ford, Chrysler and NHRA. Point your disgust in their direction. Kudos to David Barton :D :D Kudos to Don Fezell - No one is having a better time than he is!!! |

Well said Signman , and that the way a lot of us feel about the new CJ's and DP's . You only live once so enjoy it while you can . Gary Richards is a First Class guy and so is the rest of his team . He has had my respect since the first day I meet him and the same goes for Fetch

Jim had nothing to do with my post. I did not mention the names of the owner and driver on purpose. You did! We all knew there would be people who would take advantage of the corrupt system that this outfit has promulgated for years. Those who have taken advantage of this system say things like "oh what the heck you only live once" and "I know these cars are bogus but I'm going to race them anyway." Which is to politely say, we have the damn money and we're going to ram them down your throat, if you like it or not. Well, many of us don't like it and for us their names will fit right in with Sosa, The Rocket and Big Mac. And my disgust will be pointed in any direction that I may choose. But thanks for the advice. |

Signman
You posted: "The issue here is with Ford, Chrysler and nhra. Point your disgust in their direction." This isn't advice? Oh Geez, I have this really Bogus car and I'm going to catch you by the 330 and drag your arse down the track. I'm really sorry, but it's not my fault. |
Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
I personally got to be the victim of a heads up first round loss to Fetch. When Fetch approached me before the run he was more than a gentlemen to me and we discussed the fact that he was in teardown the day before for five hours with him stating, "maybe they didnt get it back together right". We both laughed. He definately was NOT egotistic towards me and I think he is a class act person and the team he drives for is first class as well. Although I may not agree with the HP ratings on these new cars, I knew this going to the US Nationals and just didnt do my part in avoiding them as I should have.

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Bruce, you're crying about new cars, yet you got spanked by an old one ,enough already, it's not 1969, race to have fun, or go home. better yet ,stay home!!!

For all those unhappy with espn's lousy coverage of sportsman racing do what you should have done long ago-turn the t.v. off and tune into channel T.O.B.Y.L.A.N.G. thanx again Toby as usual you've gone beyond our expectations.

I agree, Toby did a stund up job. Even though he got video of me getting my *** kicked, you got to give it to him for standing in the bleachers in a 100 deg. heat so we could all feel like we are some body on classracer.com!!!!
Big congrats to Jeff and Sammy, Shots on me in houston in 2 weeks!!! David Buckner 4772 |

Thanks a lot for the kind words. It's much appreciated. I have Super Stock rounds 2 & 3 and Stock round 4 ready in 720p and I will post them in a few days when I get home. I also have all the qualifying runs. If people still want to see them I will post those in 720p also.
Thanks to Chris Ashley for loaning me her mono pod. It allowed me to zoom in closer without being shaky. I will have to get my own now. :) -Toby |

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Well guys, Indy is now in the books and it was a great one! It is always great fun to see people that we don't see often, usually just at Indy. And that is what it is all about. Going and having a great time and seeing old friends and making new ones. It was great to see Mike and Paula Cotten, Keith and Tonya Lynch and all the Louisiana gang. It was also nice to see our new friends, the Skillmans, and Doug Duell and John McLeod.
It is also like Charlie Westcott said--racing!! Not for fame or fortune, but the competition and knowing that at that particular time, you went just as fast as you could. With that being said--we ran just as fast as we possible could last week--and in a heads up run against a Mustang or Challenger, we did not have a prayer. Neither did Boudreau, Zimmerman, Costello, Stubbs, Cummings, Emmons, Wilkes, Kincaid, Periard, Totaro, Hudlow, Taylor, Mattingly, or Corda. And as much as we love coming to Indy, if something is not done by next year to put the new cars in their own class, we may not be back. We want say positively that we won't be back because we are getting older and this is what we love doing. You miss this Indy and there may not be another one. But you go to qualify and then know that you have a chance to win the biggest race of the year. We would like to just have a fighting chance. |

Damned few racers would tow hundreds of miles with a new car with no passes on it to race at one of the toughest division races in the country, and then tow to Indy, not sure of being able to qualify. Bruce not only did that, but he did it successfully. It's a great looking car, with a ton of potential. And Bruce is just the sort of guy to make it reach that potential. We talked in the staging lanes, and it looks like he already knows where to find 2-4 tenths. I may not agree with Bruce on a lot of things, we've gone at each other as hard on this board as any two people in recent memory. But I'll say this, anyone who questions his dedication to drag racing in general, and Stock Eliminator in particular, has no idea what they're talking about. And given Bruce's investment of time and money in a traditional old school class car, he's got every right to speak out about NHRA making the car uncompetitive in its class with a stroke of the pen. |
Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Well said!

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Well, the plan changed a bit. I got a hold of an internet connection. I will post the three videos I have ready to go. They will be in 720p.

Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Agreed. It takes alot of courage to load up an untested car and drive 800+ miles to a division race for the first passes on a new car. 3 days later at Indy making runs at the biggest race of the year and quailfying. A big accomplishment and something to be proud of. Something that keyboard jockeys have no idea about.
QUOTE=Bruce Noland;280940]My car had 0 passes on it when I arrived at Bowling Green and 9 passes total when Kenny and I ran. I didn't go to Indy this year expecting to win anything. I thought it would be a victory just to qualify and I did do that. Maybe you should come out and try your luck since you are an authority on winning races. And I'll race any where I want and some computer cat isn't going to tell me to stay at home. What a joker?[/QUOTE] |
Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Toby,
Your videos are great. Its like being there. Very professionally done. Better than ESPN. Great Job. Bob Lasko SS/CS 1134 |
Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Toby, thanks for all your hard work. I enjoyed meeting you in the stacking area at Rob & Steph Cruzen's trailer. Chris Ashley seems like a neat young lady too.
Thanks! |
Re: "Live" from Indy US Nationals 2011
Thanks to everyone who has posted pictures and videos of the race. I had to wait 34 years to attend because of school starting (I am now retired), but I have attended and raced the last 3 years in class and finally got to race on Sunday because enough people left. It is easier to find me looking at the bottom of the ladder, rather than the top. See everyone next year. Dyno
