We've been at this thread for a long time. We've discussed this pic way back posts 1312 1313. Jerry Jenkins, Rettig Bros. longtime CA hitters

Re: Original hemi dart information

I recall this as the Feb. 8, 1970 Pro Stock race at OCIR the week following the Winternationals at Pomona. 16 car qualified field. April 70 HRM article by John Dianna page 32. Short text only covers late rounds. I have seen other articles on the event but can't find them at the moment. Schartman and Bob (or Jerry?) Jenkins driving Rettig brothers Dart were both entered.
  • Feb. 8 70 US ProStock Championship race at OCIR Sox qualifies low at 9.86 (70 Cuda), with 69 Barracuda (ex match racer) qualified 2nd at 9.95 (Butch Leal drove 69 car) Sox red lights in second round against Booth. Leal runs 9.97/138.88 to beat Bob Lambeck in Dick Landy’s 2nd team car with a 10.46/132.54. Nicholson beats Leal 10.00 to a late 9.97 and Bill Jenkins wins race at 9.87 beating a red lighting Nicholson with at 9.93.[DN 19700215] [HRM4/70]
  • Drag News story Feb. 15, 1970 issue states Bob (or Jerry?) Jenkins wins first round 10.44/130.62 against red lighting Dick Landy. A broken torque converter caused him to not make 2nd round.

GREAT picture. Not many shots of the Wayne County Dart and do not recall (2008 when Daryl started this thread) ever seeing the other one either.

Jim,

Don't forget to look in the the Mexican Cuda's and other south of the border a-bodys. Most of them had heater deletes. If I run across any down here in Texas I will grab one for you.

I parted out a Mexican Cuda a while back that had the full setup in it. That is where mine came from. Also got the little delete covers that go on the dash controls out of it, along with the metric rally gauge panel. Mine aren't for sale though.

From what I understood the "Cajun Flyer" formerly owned by the Teutons and Joe Faherty was a former Bob Reed dart too , but wasnt a factory car ,, thought he had at least one factory dart ( possibly owned at one time by Frank Spittle) which means Bob had a few darts ,can anyone confirm this?

You know what, I actually own a 72 Mexican Dart but never thought to look at it close enough and don't remember if it has a heater or not! I am heading over to storage this weekend, maybe I will get lucky?

What´s the story behind the side marker lights on these two LO:s anyone?

Specially love the pictures from the first couple of years, relay has a special aura to them, if one can use the word... Thank You.

There were a few racers that installed the front side markers including Bill Bagswaw.

Thank You Liteweight, and yes I know many over here who enjoy this Forum, and specially "Your thread". For me it´s part of the daily routine to check in here. :)

About the side marker lights, I figured maybe those cars had been in an accident or something... as matter of fact, it would be interesting if you guys listed the cars that are no longer with us, so to speak. I come to think of at least six (3 LO and 3 BO) that was totaled in some way or another, and never made it to the strip again. There are probably a few more.
Thank you
Stefan

That's kind of a touchy subject as some of those cars ID have landed up on non Hemi cars

No, it isn't MR ED, although I thought I saw a similar Dart in one of the posts in this thread.

Two different paint schemes. Stripe on one goes through door handle and the other is far below door handle.

I was speaking to my mistake in selling all those cars that are now worth a ton of money . Sold Ronnie's Cuda ,#784 as a roller for $6500 . What a dumb move that was! Also sold a TBolt ,SS/A 64 Ford, and a 67 Hemi Plymouth (roller) for a lot less than today's value.Did not need the cash, just no place to keep them. Hind site is a bitch. But thank you for the very kind post...... JACK

As well it should. A LOT of history and a LOT of stories here. Sad that as time goes by some pictures drop off, but still....... what a great historical automotive topic it has become!
